Description: Sonnie is a handsome, playful, sweet 4 year old sable and white collie who is recovering from a broken heart.  Until recently, he had loving owners but he came to MWCR in need of a new home when one of the owners passed away.  Sonnie is a dog who bonds tightly to his family, so the loss caused this normally easy-going boy to grieve and become insecure.  As a result, Sonnie can be a bit of a "velcro" dog and he displays nervous, tentative behavior when riding in the car or climbing stairs.  He needs a new owner who is willing to boost his confidence and to provide further guidance and training.

Otherwise, Sonnie is outgoing, friendly, active and a great all around dog.  He behaves wonderfully around children, although his herding instinct and activity level may overwhelm a toddler or dog-wary child.  Sonnie may greet strangers with a bark, but his friendly, curious nature quickly takes control and soon he will approach the new person with a friendly wag of his tail.  This sociable boy likes everyone and loves to play with other non-aggressive dogs.  Sonnie shows an interest in cats and may try to play with them, but he does not display aggression toward them.

Sonnie knows a few basic commands, such as "sit" and "down."  Eager to please and willing to learn, he is housebroken and well behaved in the house.  Outdoors he pulls on his leash, so use of a Gentle Leader is recommended on walks.  He loves to explore and play outdoors and just may chase a squirrel who crosses his path.  While he will bark while outside or during play, he generally is quiet in the house.  He shows potential for agility, herding or therapy dog work.

The ideal home for Sonnie would include a sizeable yard to romp in, plus an active family with children and another playful dog.  While not absolutely necessary, a fence would be a plus as he needs more exercise than just a quick daily walk on a leash provides.  Sonnie's broken heart is on the mend and this beautiful, gentle boy is ready to fall in love with a new family.  Will it be yours?
