Ace - Now Max -
Adopted 11/10/01

Ace was adopted by a loving couple in
Fridley, MN who have grown children and no
other pets. He will be the center of
attention! He has a great new yard to play
in and a forever family that will love and
care for him! Congratulations Ace and his
new forever family!
Ace is a beautiful
Mahogany Sable and White adult neutered male Collie who is
between 5 - 7 years old. Ace was rescued from a home when
the owners moved and left him tied outside with no food,
shelter or water. He was found with a pregnant female Collie
(Bella).
Latest Updates:
Hi Lori:
It was so good to see you and MWCR at the
Scottish Country Fair and it was of course wonderful to see
one of Max's young sons at your booth.
Max is still doing well.....Over the last
few months he has seemed more "settled in" and I think
finally trusts us. He follows me from room to room
always remaining by my side. Over the past few months we
have had a couple of dog visitors and he seems to enjoy
their company....as for people
visitors...well he is quite responsive to them as well.
Everyone comments on his gentle disposition and affectionate
manner. He enjoys being outside
while I am working in the yard.....he particularly enjoys
chasing the chipmunks.........We took him to a special
"off leash" park in Shoreview and of course he loved it.
He doesn't wander far... always keeping us in his sights as
we are walking the path.
Our college aged children are home for the
summer so he has been getting a lot of attention these days.
However, Max obviously had so me issues in his previous home
with either loud voices and/or hitting. If our
children are goofing around and chase each other (brother
loves to tease big sister)...........then Max gets very
upset and I think is afraid that someone is going to get
hurt so he jumps up on them trying to protect one of
them.....we have had to correct him and reassure him that
this is play..... As he has become more settled he has
become more protective of the house as well. At first he
never barked when strangers approached the house and now he
does (which pleases us). We laugh at him all the time
because of how verbal he is.....if we had knnown this we
probably would have named him something else...he is always
making these low guttural noises ...groans,etc.(almost like
a bear) when he lays down, when he is playing even when he
is just resting.......his communications are very funny.
...we have never had such a verbal dog! We love it! We adore
him!
We are hoping to send a photo soon.....he
is so beautiful!
Thanks again.....

Lorrie,
Max is doing great. He continues to become more and
more a part of the family. The neighbor kids have even
gotten into the act. Out of the blue several weeks ago, the
boys next door asked if they could take Max for a walk too.
All parties did great.
Max's coat was not very shiny and he has been shedding
quite a bit. We talked to several collie owners at the
PetSmart here in Fridley. It was suggested that we add
vegetable oil to his food (we are still feeding him the
Nutro brand). Well he loves it. It seems the addition of the
two tablespoons of vegetable oil is very tasty.
He has even gotten better about letting us know when
he wants to go out. This is a good thing. We would let
him out periodically but were never really sure if he had to
go.
He still sneaks sleep time in the recliner when we are
in bed. But of course, as soon as we come downstairs he is
out of the chair, but the chair is still warm.
He did great with his "cousin", a cockapoo from
Wisconsin who came visiting with my mother over the
holidays.
Thanks again for being there when Max needed you and
when we needed Max.
You should be very proud of the work that you do and
the benefits you provide.
Jeff, Cathey, and of course, Max
Ace was fostered in Richfield, MN.
