Toby - Now Lucky - Adopted 7/17/02Toby is a sweet Collie boy who just celebrated his 3rd birthday. He needs to be an only dog as he is very possessive of his toys and treats when it comes to other dogs.He is very affectionate toward people. He likes to play tug with anyone who is willing. He comes when called, walks nicely on leash and has no bad house habits. He does get a little carsick usually just a lot of drooling.Toby is neutered and healthy but is quite thin right now. He should weigh about 65 lbs when he gains some weight. He wants to be with his family and would do well with a family who would include him in their activities.Latest Updates:9/12/02 We renamed Toby, Lucky, because we felt very fortunate to have been able to adopt him. Lucky just seemed to fit.
He is a calm, gentle soul that is very loving. He is very well behaved. When we first brought him home, we were not sure if he had separation issues or any bad habits. A friend of mine lent me a large metal crate to use while Bill and I went to work. After having Lucky for the weekend prior to going to work, we knew we would never have to use it and returned it.
When we first got him, he had a heavy drooling problem while riding in a car. We would drape the backseat of the car with old towels and take him everywhere we could with us. His drooling issue has subsided dramatically and there have been times that he hasn't drooled at all.
We live in a condominium complex so there is no backyard. We do have a nice field next to our building where we can play fetch and run around. Bill takes him for a walk every morning before work, and I usually take him for a walk after work. He has never had any accidents of any kind in the house. He "talks" to us every day after work and tells us how his day went before we go for a walk. There is never any pulling on the leash. He walks like a perfect gentleman.
He doesn't mind being brushed. Bill and I take turns brushing him while we watch TV. He knows he is beautiful and he likes to stay beautiful.
We bought a popup camper in August and we went camping at the Bong Recreational Area campground in Kenosha County. When we walked along the road, we used a leash, but never needed one while we were in our campsite. One day, Bill wanted to go for a swim in the lake and since dogs were not allowed near the lake, Lucky and I went back to the campsite. He isn't allowed on our bed at home, but we cuddled nicely on the camper bunk and took a nice nap.
He was quite thin when we got him. Cheryl, his foster mom had fed him well, he was just very thin. He has now gained ten pounds and weighs in at 50 pounds.
My parents absolutely love him, my neighbor has told me multiple times that if we ever wanted to get rid of him she would take him. He charms everyone he meets with his beauty, intelligence and gentleness.
He is a real pleasure and we are very happy that he is now a member of our family. I will send more pictures as they get developed.
Sincerely,
Laura Toby was fostered near Milwaukee, WI. |
