King - Adopted 7/26/03

King - an almost 2yr old sable and white, tall collie boy.  King is current on vaccinations, neutered and on a heartworm preventative.  King is a very sweet boy, has very good house manners and is willing to please.  He has been my 'shadow', as we discovered he has separation anxiety.  King is very nervous in nature, and will require a great deal of individual human attention. We are working with him, introducing him to new situations, with hopes that he will become more independent.  Upon meeting strangers, he is very shy - almost withdrawn if out of his comfort zone. In his comfort zone, he tends to bark at new humans out of fear.

King enjoys being groomed and loves to 'mouth' in play (which we are working on the mouthy part, sometimes he becomes too excited and doesn't know when to quit).  He has been wonderful with other dogs and fine with our cats.

King is familiar with several commands - 'sit', 'shake/paw' and 'down'.

King would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced boundary - unless he has a family who is with him most of the day.  He craves companionship which helps him feel "at home".  Once King has established his doggie friendship, he loves to run, play and have a great time.  He is curious of children outdoors - indoors tends to ignore them. He will bark and chase bicycles and 'ATVs' (children size or otherwise) - he doesn't make contact, but will bark and run along side as if to 'herd' them.   (one of the reasons for a fence).

King will be 2yrs old, Aug. 27th.

August 4 Update on King:

King is settling in well.  I'm sending a picture of him after his first grooming.  Our cat is still adjusting, but tolerates King pretty well.  She just doesn't really care for the doggy kisses yet!  We appreciate all the work of your fellow volunteers. He's a wonderful dog and has really bonded with my husband.  In fact they're taking their nap right now!
