Holly  Needs to be placed with a companion dog  Must have a Fenced Yard     Adopted  1/04

Holly is an owner surrender.  She is 4 year old female sable and and white girlie.

Holly has never lived in a house before and is very excited to learn about everything and investigate the whole of her new surroundings.  She has only had one accident in the house.  She is crated when I am not home so as to not get into any trouble.  She wags her tail almost all the time and is VERY affectionate.

Holly is curious about the kitties, and likes to sniff them, but is very gentle with them.  She will chase them if they run - but they know that with Collies around being chased for running is part of the deal. Holly wants to be with me constantly.  When I work on the computer she likes to sleep with her hind end wedged into a kitty bed under my desk and head on my feet.  She nibbles gently on my sleeve when excited.   She sleeps in a crate in my room at night.

If Holly isn't with another dog she "shuts down" and is terrified to go anywhere or do anything.  Is basically inconsolable.   A walk?  Not enjoyable if she's alone.  Walks in the fetal position with tail tucked way in trailing behind.  Add another dog?  Prances out front, tail wagging and head held high.  Interested in everything.  Although she LOVES people and human interaction, she needs another dog around for confidence.

She is a total sweetheart and cute as a bug's ear.  Once she relaxes, puts on a few lbs. and realizes that the food will keep coming she'll be wonderful.   Holly is about 10 - 15 lbs. too thin at 38 lbs.   Although she is 4 years old, she seems like an adolescent in her wonder of all the new things in her environment.   At first Holly was very protective of her food from other dogs and would scrap over it, but she is so smart that she learned right away that we have regular meals and our house.  She learned which one is her bowl and goes and stands by it waiting to be fed.  She really enjoys yogurt or cottage cheese mixed in with her food.  Yummy!

Everyone who meets Holly thinks she is an absolute doll and wants to take her home.  She does not bark very much, but is learning from the other Collies!  Holly is hand shy at times - when someone makes a quick movement or there are sudden new noises - she becomes afraid.  Toast popping out of the toaster was startling.  The vacuum cleaner wasn't too scary, but only because one of my other Collies told her that it wasn't.  She takes her cues on how to behave from the other dogs.  Holly needs to go to obedience and learn how to walk nicely on a leash because she does a lot of "drifting" from side to side investigating things.  She doesn't pull, but will trip you up by walking right in front of you if you aren't paying attention.   I expect that she will get into trouble if left uncrated.  She doesn't yet know what is "acceptable" chew items and will try something new if not supervised.   Holly does know how to sit for a treat and takes it gently.  She is very intuitive and picks up on the mood of any situation.  She is a very good girl and very much wants to please.   She has scrapped several times with my dogs, but most of that is from insecurity in a new situation.

Holly doesn't seem to be afraid of anyone and trots from person to person to be petted.    Holly needs a fenced yard because new noises and things startle her.  If she became afraid of something she would bolt.  She also requires a doggie pal for courage.  Holly loves to run and is VERY fast.  She runs like a gazelle.  She will require a good "romp" on a daily basis in addition to daily walks.    Holly shows signs of being a herder and loves to chase.

Holly is an incredibly sweet and wonderful little girl.  With the right family situation she will blossom and gain more and more confidence and trust.  She just needs someone who will be gently firm with her and give her the loving environment that she deserves.   She has made great progress in her foster home in several short weeks.

Holly is being fostered near the Twin Cities, MN
