Mo
Adopted 1/04

Some of these photos of Mo were taken
at the shelter (which is why he is in a cage in
one of them).
Mo was found tied to the door
of a shelter by staff when they arrived in the morning.
Mo is a male Collie boy
approximately 2 years old. He is a the
product of two merles being bred together which
can create birth defects such as blindness and
deafness. This Merle to Merle breeding is called
a "double dilute". Mo is both hearing
impaired and sight impaired, although it is not
certain to what extent at this point.
January 4 Update:
Thought I would give you some update on Mo.
I have an appointment to have his neuter
stitches removed on Monday. I have noticed
that he has no apparent hearing at all.
The other dogs will cuss him out and he pays
no mind to it at all. His vision is better
than we thought. He will pull strings
out of sweatshirts and has a fetish for
electrical cords or should I say cords of any
kind. I have not noticed him running into
anything at all. Because of his cord fetish I
have decided that it is best for him to be
crate trained. It is best for him at
night and when I am not at home to keep an eye
on him. He does not seem to mind it except
when it is time to go in, then once in he
settles down. He has done well in the house
and has only left me a present twice.
One of each flavor. He is adapting to
the stairs very well. When I or the
other dogs go outside he bounds right down
them. He seems to be skittish on his own
coming up and going down. When I try to assist
him he wants to run from me, so I sit at the
table and he will bark and whine but then he
figures it out and comes right up. Mo I
think is very people oriented because he wants
to be right next to you all the time. I think
that part of his problem may be hyperactive.
He can chew on a rawhide, drop it and want to
play with a toy, then want to chew on the
rawhide. If I don't give him the attention he
requires than he will surf the counter, table,
chew on my remote controls or basically
anything he can get a hold of.
He is learning his place in the pack with the
others. He is also starting to respect their
space. He has learned that even though Max the
yorkie may be small, he will stand his ground.
Dusty and Kaila are not very good playmates
because of his size he is rough. They let him
know when he has gone far enough. At nite when
everyone is in, they are laying closer to each
other without spats of being to close.
I am looking for a friend that has a digital
camcorder so I can send you all a video of him
running in the yard with no restrictions. It
will take your breath away. His massive body
with his white mane blowing in the wind is a
sight to behold. Which by the way he can see
me across the yard and run right to me. Maybe
he has more of a tunnel vision problem. He
watches movement on TV.
He found the toilet paper roll the
other nite and he strung it into the living
room. A lost kodak moment. Now I keep the
camera ready and charged at all times.
Mo is being fostered near
Cedar Rapids, IA.
