Blake

11 month old smooth tri male

Blake is a striking, smooth coated, tri-colored male.  He is eleven months old, neutered and completely up to date on his shots.  His health is great, and he has beautiful, shiny, white teeth.  Blake was surrendered by his owners who did not have enough time to play with him and groom him.  As a smooth coated collie, he does need frequent brushing to prevent excess shedding.

Blake is a very bright guy, who learns quickly and wants to please.  He is housebroken and working on perfecting his leash walking skills.  His foster mom says that within the week she expects him to have mastered many commands, including "sit," "down," "shake," "cross" and "stay."  The "come" command is a bit more of a challenge, but Blake is really still a puppy, with all of the usual puppy exuberance.

Blake loves to play, both with people and with other dogs.  At the dog park, he is eager to try and assert himself as "top dog," but when another dog says no, Blake understands quickly and moves on.  He is full of youthful energy, and that, coupled with his intelligence, makes him a great candidate for obedience or agility training.  Blake has some separation anxiety and would do best in a home where there is another dog or a stay-at-home person to keep him company.

Blake is an affectionate, fun-loving boy who is looking for a forever home that includes another dog or older children to play with, and a fenced yard to frolic in.  He is hoping for a family who will channel his puppy energy and intelligence and help him develop into the loyal, lifetime companion that he is ready to become.

Update on Blake (7/6/04)
Blake's foster mom says he just gets more lovable every day! He's very affectionate and wants to be part of everything that goes on. "Going to the kitchen?" "OK, here I come!" "Going outside?" "Sounds good to me!" "Going upstairs?" "Me too!" He understands "no" if you want him to leave you alone, but he is always happiest if he can be with you.

Blake continues to fill out, now weighing 63 pounds, and he has been micro-chipped. During the July 4th holidays, he had no trouble with fireworks, and he has no fear of or hostility toward the vacuum cleaner. He has really gotten the hang of the dog park and loves to chase and frolic with the other dogs. If you live in or near Saint Paul, you can come by the dog park at either Battle Creek or Arkwright and meet Blake almost any day of the week.

Blake's foster mom says he has a really cute method of drinking water. Apparently, he doesn't like to get his cheeks wet, so he pushes his nose up against the far side of the bowl while lapping. (Maybe you have to be there!)

Contact MWCR if you want to know more about Blake and his fun loving ways. This sweet guy is ready to become someone's pride and joy.
