Bio for Ebony

Ebony is a beautiful, six year old, neutered, tri-colored, male. He is what we like to think of as a "done" dog. In other words, all the hard work of housebreaking, training, socializing and generally civilizing has already been done for you. Ebony has moved beyond all those puppy antics and issues, and has evolved into the perfect, well behaved gentleman. From the first day at his foster home, he was given complete run of the house and never once abused the privilege. He likes to lie by your feet during dinner, but never begs. If offered food from your hand, he takes it gently and politely. He doesn't counter surf, walks well on a leash and is obedient in every situation.

When he first came to MWCR, Ebony was in pretty sad physical condition. He was extremely overweight (weighing in at 111 pounds) and in serious need of bathing, grooming and proper diet. Because of his severe weight problem, he was unable to stand for any length of time, and when the other dogs at his foster home would play, Ebony's only means of participation was to bark encouragement from the sidelines. Now, after a healthy, light diet and gradual, physical exercise, Ebony has lost 15 pounds and is able to run and CHASE his siblings around the yard! He now bounds up the stairs, loves tug toys and games, and enjoys his early morning and evening walks.

Ebony is a large collie, standing 27 inches at the shoulder, and has a really beautiful, full coat. His coat is especially lush through the collar and shoulder area and resembles a lion's mane. He is primarily black (hence his name), but his coat includes blue/gray flecks and highlights. Like any rough coated collie, Ebony will require regular grooming, but he is very tolerant of the process, and will allow you to touch and handle any part of his body while grooming or bathing him. His black coat does make him susceptible to heat, so he really enjoys air conditioning and likes to take his daily walks before or after the heat of the day.

Ebony has a very gentle and affectionate nature. He gets along well with other dogs (though he would prefer to avoid the company of a highly dominant dog), and he adores children. He bonds very quickly to his family and wants to spend all his time with them. He seems to prefer women to men, but will bond with a male who treats him gently. He provides a great security system, since he will "warn" or any unusual sounds or activities but will immediately become quiet if told to do so.

Ebony is a very special guy, who will bring a gentle, loving nature to his forever home. He will keep his new family constantly amused with with his playful manner and hilarious poses (his "frog" position is particularly cute). His favorite pose, however, will always be the one where he is curled up next to his very own family.

Ebony is being fostered in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
