Ella

5  year old sable female

Ella is a sable rough coated collie who is approximately five years old. She is in good health but needs to lose about 5# and may need a dental cleaning within the next 6 months or so. She is a very good tempered dog who loves to be around people. She rides well in the car, she attempts to jump into the Escape but usually needs some help at the end. She seems to walk well on leash, although I must admit we have not gone for many walks yet. She gets along well with cats and other dogs, as long as food or treats are not offered. She seems fine around men, women, and children of all ages; and does well when approached by strangers.

She knows some basic commands: sit, speak, shake, and stay. We are working on down and she needs a lot of help with come. She stays in my fenced in yard and does not attempt to escape but because she does not come consistently when called. For this reason I would recommend that her forever home have a fenced in yard or some other means to make sure she stays and does not wander ,that's how we (MWCR) got her. She likes to run around the yard with my boys (collie and bulldog), but is just as happy getting a belly rub or a butt massage. True to her breed she does like to bark sometimes, mainly when the neighbors dog is barking, but by no means is it excessive. She doesn't appear to like many toys, at least yet. She's completely housebroken and kennel trained. She really seems to enjoy her kennel and will go to lay down in it when I'm in that room studying.

Her only two faults I have noticed are: She's a little mouthy when you run and play with her in the yard. And she has shown some food aggression with other dogs but not with people, I tested that. Solutions for both problems are simple avoidance and training.

I did forget to mention that she doesn't like to eat plain dry food and the only treat she really likes is liver snaps. She is being fed 1 cup of dry food mixed with 1/4 can and then she eats very well. She has been started on Cosequin because she may have some arthritis in her hips. It would be good when she's under for a dental to have her hips radiographed to check them out. Cosequin is a very benign and safe medication it can only help
her and she takes it very well in her food.

Ella is a wonderful dog who like all animals deserves a good home that will love and care for her. If I didn't have plans to help other collies like her in the future I'd be adopting her myself. She will make someone very happy and be a great addition to their family. Her forever home should plan
on her being a house dog who loves to rearrange throw rugs.

Ella is being fostered in the Twin cities
