Update for Lanny!
Lanny has come a long way! Not only has he made the long journey from Alabama to Minnesota, but he has been transformed from a sick, poorly nourished boy to a handsome, healthy collie. When Lanny first came to MWCR (by way of a MWCR member in Alabama) he had ear mites and infections, mange, an upper respiratory infection, and was heart worm positive. Today, after months of medical treatment, good food and loving care, Lanny is a happy, healthy boy with a thick, luxurious coat who bears little resemblance to his former self. He has tested negative for microfilaria (the circulating heartworms), but should have repeat testing in June.
Lanny is about two years old, neutered and weighs about sixty pounds. He is a very mellow guy, who seldom barks except for the occasional "woof" at another dog or a passing squirrel. He doesn't react to cars, motorcycles or vacuum cleaners. He is house trained, although his foster family does crate him during the day while they are at work. He is not destructive when given the run of the house, but he is an ingenious "counter surfer," preferring people food to boring, old dog food. Lanny loves to go for walks and play with his stuffed and squeaky toys, and he is starting to enjoy riding in the car.
Lanny is a sweet, affectionate collie who wants to be near his people. He is especially drawn to children, but would probably do best with older children, since he instinctively tries to "herd" the younger ones. He is not dominant and gets along well with other dogs and cats.
Lanny is now ready for the final leg of his long journey: the trip to his forever home! He will get along well either as an only dog or with canine siblings. A fenced yard would be ideal but not a necessity as long as he is supervised when outdoors. (He has some hearing loss due to his previous ear infections, and might not hear if called from a distance.) Most importantly, Lanny is looking for a family that he can lavish with love and all of that southern charm.
Bio for Lanny
Love and compassion are not confined within geographic boundaries, and kindness and caring can reach across state lines. That is the happy lesson that Lanny the collie learned earlier this year when a MWCR member living in Alabama saved him from a neglectful Alabama home. When Lanny's rescuer took him in, he was suffering from demodectic mange, heartworm, ear mites, worms and an upper respiratory infection. Left in his current state, Lanny would have died a slow and miserable death.
But Lanny's guardian angel changed all that. She brought him from Alabama to Wisconsin when the family came north for the holidays and from there he was transported to his foster home in Marshall, Minnesota. Lanny is now enjoying a gentle, loving home for the first time in his young life. He has a long period of extensive medical treatment ahead of him, but eventually this sweet collie boy will be returned to health and strength.
Lanny has had few advantages in his brief, one to two year, life. But in spite of this, Lanny is a friendly, playful, happy guy who loves to play with stuffed or squeaky toys and craves the attention and affection that has been missing in his life until now. He plays happily with his canine foster sisters (a Golden Retriever and a Collie/Husky mix) and loves to stretch out on the bed with his foster mom.
After a very sad beginning, Lanny must feel that he has gone to heaven: toys, good food, a woolly red coat to wear, other dogs to play with, and lots of love and attention. He only has one question - why does heaven have to be so COLD???
Lanny has lots of costly medical treatment ahead of him before he will be fully recovered and ready for his forever home. Please help us help this sweet collie boy by making a donation to Lanny's medical expenses. Watch here for updates on Lanny's health and see how your contribution made it possible.
