Leo is a very laid back and mellow collie boy. Loves attention and
people! He isn't too velcro, as he enjoys his space and honors
yours. Leo loves to window watch to see what is going on in the
neighborhood. He will run from one window to another and will also
venture out on our deck just to watch and see what is going on. Leo
will case the perimeter of our 6ft wooden privacy fence in the back
yard looking for a way to see another dog, kids, etc.... I would be
afraid that he would wander off if not in a fenced in situation. (He
was originally found wandering on an Iowa farm). Leo is not barkey,
but will bark at a passing motorcycle or a noisy and loud truck and
will run and hide in the smallest of spaces if he hears thunder or
firecrackers. Totally a basket case. He is not very good on a
leash... he will wander back and forth if given alot of lead. Needs
more training if he is going to be spending alot of time on a leash.
Leo definitely knows his name now as he has great recall. He has
learned wonderful manners as he will sit and will wait patiently for
his food or a treat. He loves being groomed... so tolerant, I think
he just loves the attention.
Leo still will not go up my deck steps. We have tried and tried to
coax him with treats etc... no luck. It might be that because they
are wooden or that you can see through them. He will go down them
and he will go up and down my carpeted steps in the house just
fine. Leo loves car rides and is totally housebroken and non-
destructive.
Leo plays and wrestles with Shelby and has learned to pickup her toys
to get her fired up. He doesn't know what to do with the toys
himself, he just uses them to get at Shelby. Shelby has made it
known to Leo that she is boss and very jealous, therefore, he will
not enjoy a rawhide treat, carrots, ice cubes etc... with her
around.
I think Leo would do well with a non-dominant doggie companion or as
an only dog. He would be fine around older children, I think he
might be too big or too mouthy around toddlers. He hasn't been
around any cats, but has barked when one comes close to the yard.
Leo is being fostered in the Twin Cities area
