Bio For Logan – Adoption Pending!!!
Hi! I'm Logan and I'm a six month old, Tri-colored, collie boy. I'm really still a puppy, but I've already experienced some very grown-up troubles. First of all, I don't have a forever home. But even worse than that, I have something that the vet calls Demodectic Mange. That means that I have skin parasites (yuk!) living in my hair follicles that I got from my mom when I was born. Everyone has these, but I have way too many and my immune system can't control those yucky mange mites. Since my mom is sick with this condition too, she should not have had puppies because they were sure to be sick like me. My skin itches all the time, and I have little red sores all over my body. Even my eyes get red and sore, and my foster mom has to put ointment in them. (I hate that!)
I'm one miserable puppy!
There is some good news though. Recently, I came to MWCR, and they are going to take care of me and help me get well. My vet says my mange might be cured and then hopefully I will be a normal, healthy collie. Unfortunately, my treatments are very, very expensive. MWCR has helped so many sick, homeless collies this year that now they need help paying for my treatments. They've set up the "Logan Fund" and if you could make a donation (every little bit adds up), it would help me to become the playful, happy collie that I want to be.
Once I'm well, MWCR will find me a forever home. I can hardly imagine what it will be like to be healthy and have my own family to love me. Please help me get there!
9-17-04 update
Hi everyone. Just thought I'd update you on Logan's progress (7 month old tri with demodex mange). We are treating him with daily Interceptor, Benadryl, and adding Missing Link Plus and echinacea drops to his food. He's been off of antibiotic for almost 3 weeks and seems to be doing well. He hasn't developed any new sores or irritated skin areas, and seems to be itching and scratching a bit less. We are bathing him every 10-14 days with Pyoben shampoo to control the bacteria on his skin. He certainly seems to be a happy, baby boy. We won't be doing another skin scraping until he completes his 3-month Interceptor treatment, so we can't say for certain if the mites are losing the battle. We can only hope so!!
I want to thank those that have donated towards Logan's medical expenses. His treatment is expensive, but necessary to rid him of the parasite. He is a wonderful, energetic collie puppy, and we are grateful he found his way to this organization. Hopefully he will soon be a normal puppy living life to it's fullest. Thanks, everyone, for giving him a chance.
Logan is being fostered in the Twin Cities area.
So far $1800 has been spent on Logan’s medical treatments.
