Max is a one year old, neutered, sable male.  He came to MWCR from a shelter where he had been surrendered by his owners.  His family said that they just couldn't give him the time and attention that he needed.

 

And Max does need attention to channel and stimulate his amazing intelligence.  His foster mom says he is the smartest dog she has ever known and sometimes wonders which of them is smarter.  (Max thinks he knows, but he's not saying!)  Recently, Max's foster mom discovered him putting his squeaky toys back in the toy box when he went to retrieve a rawhide chew.  WOW!  A dog that cleans up after himself!  So far Max doesn't do windows, but he's working on that.

 

Max is beginning training classes soon to help him harness all that energy and brain power.  He already knows a variety of commands including sit, stay, shake, down, up (going to a sit position when down), knock it off, and stop.  He will shake hands from all positions, proving that he is as flexible and he is clever.  He is completely crate trained and loves to ride in the car.  Max loves kids and adults, and wants to chase the cat (Hey, isn't that what they're there for!?)

 

Is Max the perfect dog?  No, like all geniuses, he has his quirks.  He is still a puppy at heart and can be mouthy, but he is learning to redirect that behavior.  For example, if he gets excited (as he does when his foster family returns home), he has learned to fetch a toy to chew on (rather than a person) and then wait to be petted.  Also, although he is not hostile or aggressive with other dogs, he doesn't react well to them. 

 

Max is looking for a forever home where he can be an only dog.  His exceptional intelligence requires the attention and stimulation that he could not get with another dog around.  He would be a superstar in agility training, and is always a joy to work with.  Max loves with his whole heart and is looking for a family to return his devotion.
