New to Rescue!

Connie is a really lovely, 18 month old, collie girl.  She is very petite and though she weighs only 45 pounds, her vet says she is the perfect weight for her frame.  She is rough coated with beautiful blue merle coloring.

Connie loves to run and play, and she is very, very, fast.  She can outrun all the other dogs at her foster home and really enjoys racing around the fenced yard.  Her foster mom thinks that with Connie's speed, energy and small size, she would be perfect for agility training.  Connie also likes to go for walks, although she walks better if there is another dog with her.  If not, she tends to go in circles and likes to take the leash in her mouth and try to walk you!  Her favorite part about walks is meeting new people.  She also likes to go for rides in the car.

Connie does suffer from mild separation anxiety and will bark for 10 or 15 minutes when her foster family leaves the house.  She needs lots of affection and reassurance.  She is crate trained and will "kennel up" on command, and though she will sleep in her crate, she prefers to sleep near her family  She knows the "shake" command, but being the affectionate girl that she is, she often uses it as an excuse to put up the other paw so she can give you a hug and a kiss.

Connie gets along well with everyone including her collie, foster sisters.  She is used to cats, having lived with a couple at her former home.  In fact, she is so gentle and affectionate that the resident cat at her foster home prefers Connie to the two collies that live there permanently!

When Connie originally arrived at her foster home, she was quite a picky eater, however with time and lots of exercise, her appetite has improved.  She is a little shy about taking treats from strangers, but once she gets to know and trust you, she will take them ever so gently.  She does not counter surf.

Connie is working on improving her house training and her foster mom reports that she is doing very well recently.   She is a smart girl and eager to please.

Connie is looking for a forever home, ideally one with a fenced yard, and a family that likes to get lots of collie hugs and kisses.

Connie is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, IA.
