New to Rescue!
Lad is a 5 ½ year old mahogany sable boy, who spent a large part, if not all, of his life locked in a kennel and never let out of it.
In spite of never being shown much human contact other than the very minimum, basic necessities to be kept alive, Lad is blossoming in his foster home. Lad now seems to feel that he must make up for lost time, and is enjoying seeking out affection and attention.
Having never been talked to, Lad did not respond to his given name when brought into foster care, so the new name of "Lad" was bestowed upon him. With a little more time, he will learn that HE is Lad, and that it is a good thing to have a name to respond to. Obedience training would benefit this boy, as he has never had the opportunity to learn that certain words mean certain things, and that by learning these words, he can start actually to communicate with people.
A lot of things are new to Lad - he now lives by train tracks and the river - so he sometimes barks at trains and barges to let them know he is for the first time aware that there is a world out there.
Lad is beginning to realize he can move about a bit more freely, and would like to chase a stray cat or squirrel if they should happen across his path. For this reason, and because Lad might enjoy his new-found freedom too much without one, it is required that his new home have a fenced yard.
Lad is good about letting his foster folks know he has to go outside, and he enjoys coming back into the house where he feels secure and loved. Lying at his foster family's feet while they are at the desk or watching TV makes Lad feel like part of a family, which he must think is a pretty wonderful thing.
This gentle boy is looking for a home and family to call his very own for the first time in his life. He would love to hear a voice say, "Lad...come!", and know it means that somebody really wants him.
Lad is being fostered in St. Paul, MN.
