Update – Thursday November 3, 2005
Now that Mia has had time to settle into her new "digs", she has become quite the princess, and has learned it is a very good thing to live indoors in doggie luxury. This includes her favorite activity – getting her belly rubbed. She cannot get enough of this, and will groan at length to show her approval. Getting her ears rubbed would come in a
close second on Mia's list of good things. Her foster dad woke up one
night to find Mia just lying in bed a foot away from him, staring at
him. It appears that she can't believe that she was fortunate enough to
find herself in such a wonderful spot. She has the need to touch her
"person" while she is sleeping, as if to remain reassured through the
night that all is still secure in her world.
If Mia had her way, she would get attention 24 hours a day, and will
clamor to be the only dog getting attention. She shows no food
aggression, and enjoys playing chase with the other dogs. She has even
passed muster recently when left out of her crate to her own devices during
the day! What a good girl Mia is turning out to be. To be able to
please, and to receive attention, are Mia's goals in life - and she is
now able to succeed at both!
New to Rescue!
Mia is a lovable, 18 month old, spayed, sable and white, collie girl. She came to MWCR with her friend Herbie, and like him, she had spent her entire, young life tied outside with very little socialization and human interaction. Mia is a smooth coated (short hair) collie, so while she has all of the typical collie good looks, she needs far less grooming to look pretty (but sheds just as much).
Mia is a very friendly girl, both with people and with other dogs. She loves to play with the other collies at her foster home and shows no sign of food aggression (although she likes to check out all of the food bowls to make sure none of the collies has anything tastier than she has!) Her foster home doesn't have cats or children, so they are an unknown quantity with Mia.
Having spent most of her life outdoors, Mia is just discovering all of the joys of being an indoor dog. Unfortunately, one of her discoveries includes the fact that trash cans and counter tops often contain some very tasty items. Her foster family is working on teaching Mia that these places are off limits, but for the time being, she needs to be crated when the family is not around. She has had little training, but she is housebroken and comes when called. She is a clever, eager-to-please girl and is hoping that her forever home will teach her lots of new things.
Mia is an extremely sweet, loving girl who wants to be near you all of the time. She likes to sleep by her foster dad's bed and loves to give collie kisses. Mia is ready for a forever family who will introduce her to all of the things that were missing in her early life: games, walks, attention and lots and lots of love!
Mia is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
