Sherman Today, his first post-adoption Christmas! Ho, Ho, Ho!
|
New to Rescue!
Sherman is a happy, healthy, 4 1/2 year old, neutered male. He was surrendered to MWCR by his owners who no longer had time for him. Sherman was spending 12 - 14 hours per day alone and was covered with mats. He had to be shaved, but his beautiful, full coat will eventually grow back; in the meantime, with the summer heat, Sherman is enjoying his buzz cut!
Sherman is a friendly, easy going guy who likes everyone he meets. He loves to play and chase lighting bugs with the other dogs in his foster home, and he is especially fond of his foster sister. He likes to sleep where he can watch her in her crate, and every morning he goes straight to her kennel to check her out and say "Good morning." Of course like many brothers, he can't help but tease her a little, and likes to playfully bite her tail. Sherman's foster home has cats, but he is cautious and a little nervous around them, and the cats generally ignore him. There are no children in his foster home, but his foster family believes that Sherman would be fine around older children.
Sherman is completely house trained and non-destructive. His foster family refers to him as their "good child." They don't crate him, and they feel very comfortable giving him the run of the house - even if they will be absent for an extended period of time. He knows "sit" and will come when called, but Sherman hasn't received much formal education. He is an intelligent, eager-to-please boy who is looking forward to a forever family who will teach him new things and help him with his leash walking skills.
Sherman has a strong herding instinct and wants to chase/herd just about everything: bikes, trucks, motorcycles and people. He will bark and "mouth" while herding and for this reason he should probably not go to a home with small children who could easily be frightened or knocked down. He will need a fenced yard to keep him safe, since herding trucks can be a very dangerous past time.
Like many dogs, Sherman is afraid of - though not neurotic about - fireworks and other loud noises. He is not food aggressive, but will sometimes give the other dogs a little warning growl during mealtime. He doesn't like grooming, but his foster family is trying to acclimate him by brushing him a little every day and rewarding him with a treat when the brushing is over. When being bathed, he will show his displeasure by lying down throughout the entire process!
Sherman is a sweet, lovable boy who is ready for a wonderful, forever home that DOES have time for him. His easy-going personality and sweet nature will make him a loving companion and a great addition to the lucky family that adopts him.
Sherman is being fostered in Spencer, Iowa.
