Tillie when new to foster care

|
Through no fault of hers, Tillie is back in MWCR looking for her forever home.
Update – August 5, 2005!
As Tillie has settled into her foster home, it is obvious that she loves people and wants all the attention she can get. If you are looking for a dog that will hang out with you 24/7 and will love you unconditionally, Tillie is your girl. She will sit near you when you are working on something and will cuddle with you when you are just lounging about. Tillie's foster mom says that if she had only one dog, it would certainly be Tillie! And don't forget that though Tillie is uncomfortable with other dogs, she really loves cats and has shown nothing but affection for them. She would love to be an only dog with a harem of kitties and a doting family of humans.
Intake Bio...
There is nothing cuter than a puppy, gazing longingly at you from the window of a pet store. Unfortunately, puppies should be spending those formative weeks and months in a loving home - not a lonely cage. Tillie spent three months in a pet store cage before she was purchased, at five months of age, by her previous owners. These owners loved Tillie (who wouldn't!) and took good care of her: she was spayed, well fed, kept up-to-date on her vaccinations, regularly groomed and even micro-chipped. But a playful, energetic, young collie proved to be too active and noisy, so they reluctantly surrendered her to MWCR so she could find a more suitable home.
There is still a lot of puppy in this sweet, 18 month old, sable and white, collie girl. She is healthy, eats well and weighs an appropriate 52 pounds. Tillie is fully house trained and non-destructive in the house. She is crate trained as well, but she is so well mannered, there is really no need to crate her. She is learning basic commands and is very eager to please. She walks fairly well on a leash, but sometimes pulls if she sees any small animals.
Tillie LOVES people. Everyone she meets is her friend. She really enjoys meeting new people when she goes for walks and is very friendly and polite. Her foster home has a fenced yard, and Tillie loves to stand with her front feet on the fence and give collie kisses to the neighbor. She is good with older children, but might be a little too active for toddlers. Tillie likes to play with the other dogs in her foster home and also enjoys a good game of fetch. Unlike many dogs, Tillie not only tolerates cats but is crazy about them. In her former home, she liked to curl up with the cat and "mother" her.
Tillie has never quite forgotten those three months in the pet store cage. Whenever her people leave, she becomes extremely nervous and anxious, and she barks. Her former owners had her medically debarked, but the fear and nervousness remain. Her separation anxiety can be dealt with, but her adoptive family will need to work with her and help her to learn that being left alone doesn't mean she is being abandoned.
Tillie is a wonderful, loving girl who is looking for a forever family who will help her develop into the confident, independent dog she wants to be. Obedience training would increase her confidence and create a great bond with her new family. A doggie playmate would be perfect for working off all of that puppy energy. Tillie would also enjoy older children to play with and would really like a nice, friendly cat to "mother."
Tillie has shared with us that she would like to be the only dog in her forever family, but would love a kitty friend. Tillie is being fostered in Twin Cities, MN.
