Tuffy

1-year-old sable and white maleNot good with Small Children

New to Rescue!

Tuffy is a one year old  collie  with interesting markings - his four white feet with tan spots make him look rather dashing and unique!  He is on the smaller side, weighing in at approximately 40 pounds of adolescence.

Tuffy is a fun-loving collie -  very, very playful and puppyish.  While naturally endearing, this also means that Tuffy would need a new family with the time and patience to devote to obedience classes and teaching Tuffy how to grow into his manners.  And while obedience classes will guide Tuffy into adulthood, he will need lots of play and exercise time so he can enjoy his youth.   Once he has learned his basic manners and commands, Tuffy would be a great candidate for herding classes.  He appears to have a great herding instinct, which if unchanneled, can translate into sometimes chasing cars and bicycles, but, if channeled into herding sheep or ducks, could result in Tuffy becoming a champion herder!

Children, cats, and other dogs are all ok with Tuffy!  He will play chase, but all is in the spirit of young fun. Being that he IS such a bundle of energy, he may unintentionally be a bit overwhelming for very small children. Although he can be shy at first, particularly with men, Tuffy is loving and friendly with all people.  (And will do the puppy-jump for joy, which would need to be worked on in his lessons).

Tuffy is housetrained, and will bark to go outside.  He is not a big barker otherwise.  He does not ride well in a car - he gets carsick, and if he barks while in the car, it is a good indication for the driver to pull over!  He is getting better about getting into the car, but is very nervous about the whole situation.  With time, patience, and routine, Tuffy will most likely start to associate car rides with good things, and grow out of his fear.

Like any youngster, Tuffy is not thrilled about keeping still long enough to be groomed, but puts up with it!

This bundle of young fun would love nothing more than a home where he can enjoy being a puppy, while learning how to be a "canine good citizen" as he matures.

Tuffy is being fostered in the Twin Cities, MN.
