New to Rescue!
Faith came to MWCR with her five month old puppy, Lilly, when they were found wandering as strays. When they were homeless, Lilly depended on Faith to help her survive, but now they are living in separate foster homes to help Lilly develop a sense of independence. Faith seems to enjoy her newfound freedom and the opportunity to soak up ALL the attention of her foster family. She is a young (three to five year old), sable and white, collie girl whose short coat probably reflects the after effects of having recently had a litter of puppies. Once she has had a chance to rebound from motherhood and has enjoyed lots of quality food, she is expected to regain her beautiful, thick coat.
Faith has been a very good girl at her foster home. She is housetrained and does not need to be crated. She gets along with the resident dogs (though she is not particularly interested in them) and really loves to be around the family’s young children. She can’t seem to get enough of the attention that was missing in her life prior to coming to MWCR, and will rest her head against you and let you pet her non stop. She begs the children for attention, and even naps with them. Her foster family does not have a cat, but Faith has shown a marked tendency to chase the neighbor’s cat, so she would do best in a forever home that was feline free.
Faith is highly food motivated which should make it easy to teach her commands, since she is also a smart girl who wants to please. She will need some work on her leash skills and absolutely hates to be crated. She can be somewhat food aggressive with other dogs (not surprising since until recently food was in short supply), but has shown no aggression with people. Faith can sometimes be reluctant to go outside, but once she learns that she will always be allowed back in, this should diminish. Her craving for affection means that she enjoys brushing and even bathing – anything to get your attention. She also loves to go for car rides and enjoys playing with toys. She likes to chew, so plenty of chew toys will be a necessity in her forever home.
Faith will be spayed within the next week and should be ready to go to her forever home shortly after that. She should probably have a fenced yard, since she likes to herd cars and chase motorcycles, but does not need a doggy companion. If her family does have another dog, it should be a submissive female, since Faith definitely expects to be the “queen bee.” She would love to have a family with children who would dote on her, and in return she will be very gentle and loving with them. This cuddly girl can’t wait to have her own forever family to love.
Faith is being fostered in the Des Moines, IA area.
