New to Rescue!

Hi, I'm Jack!    I've certainly had a lot going on in my life in the last couple months.  After spending my entire life (well, that was only 1½ years) in a home with a lot of kids and a Mom and Dad, it was necessary for them to find me a new home.   They told me it wasn’t that they didn’t want me; but due to some personal situations it just wasn’t possible for them to keep me.  Because they wanted the best for me; they called MWCR.

What a day that move was . . . a nice lady picked me up and took me for a ride to meet another lady . . . boy was that hard . . .I’m kind of shy and scared of new places and I had to get into two new cars with different people.  But everyone was nice and I got to my foster home where I was so excited because there were two other dogs to play with . . well; really only one because my foster sister really thought I was a pain because I wanted to play all the time.

My first week in my foster home I had an appointment at the vet to be neutered (Geesh!!) but when they did my heartworm test they found out I was heartworm positive.  I didn’t know I was sick and neither did my family or my foster mom!!  Anyway, I got my first Heartworm treatment injection that day – OUCH!!!  Then I had to go home and be quiet for four weeks!!   That was really hard to do but we made it through the four weeks and then I had to go back to get two more injections – that was a double OUCH!!  That was six weeks ago and now I can run and play just like a healthy dog.   I won’t go back to be re-tested for heartworm for another couple months and when that happens I’ll probably have my neuter surgery.   I don’t think there is anyway I’m going to get away without that.

I try to get all the attention I can and especially like to get on the couch or bed with my foster-mom.  Most of the time when I do that she pets me and gives me lots of hugs which I really like.   I don’t mind cats most of the time; but sometimes the cats at my house get a little pushy so I chase them.   I’d never hurt them but just like to get them away from me.  I play very well with all other dogs, especially when I go to the dog park.  However, my favorite doggie friends are the ones who will run and play.  Life at my foster home is good . . .except for the vacuum cleaner.  When the vacuum cleaner comes out I have to go out on the porch because I really don’t like that noise.

My ideal forever home would have another dog to play with, and maybe a human kid or two...but then again, if being the only dog meant I’d get all of the attention, well, I could certainly live in that situation just fine! I’m really scared of kennels and small rooms, and being closed off in the basement would be just awful! So wherever I live would have to understand that about me, ok?  The most important thing I can think of is to be an important part of my new family, and not shut out of their lives or activities. Cuz I need them to love me as much as I love them! And believe me, I have plenty of love to give! Anybody got a lot of love they want to give me in return for a lifetime of devotion?????

Jack is being fostered in Northfield, MN.
