New to Rescue!
Jesse is a very sweet sable collie. He turned 2 years old on March 8, 2006. He was surrendered at a local Emergency Animal Hospital due to financial constraints. Lucky for Jesse, the Animal Hospital worked through the day and contacted MWCR as a last resort to see if we could help him – and so we went and picked him up.
Jesse has a chronic condition called Inflammatory Bowel Disease. His previous owners had him diagnosed with a biopsy that confirmed the disease. He may have periods of diarrhea (sometimes bloody), that hopefully can be controlled with a special prescription diet of venison and potato, and medication for those flare-ups. Since he came into rescue, and has been on his special diet and medications, there have not been any episodes of diarrhea or vomiting. The vet is hoping that he will be able to come completely off meds and will be fine just maintained on a good diet. It will be very important never to give him people food, rawhides, greenies, and to keep him on his prescription diet as long as the vet says it is needed, followed by a premium diet for the rest of his life. He was just diagnosed in December 2005. So we don’t know the long term plan yet, or how he will respond as we change his medications and/or diet. We also don’t know the frequency of flare-ups or how he will heal. For this reason, he will not be able to be adopted out until he is stable and has the OK from his veterinarian. If you would like to donate to help defray some of the cost while we get him stabilized, that would be appreciated.
