New to Rescue!
Everybody needs someone to share their secrets with, and who better to talk to than our sweet Lady. Lady is a wonderful listener and will happily answer all of our questions; she will even pose a few of her own. She likes nothing better than to lie beside her foster mom and make her “happy” sounds, little gurgles and mumbles that indicate how much she loves to be cuddled and petted and talked to. Her foster mom swears that Lady’s happy “ummms” and “aaahhhs” change to “oooohhh nooooo” when she sees her reach for the brush or comb. Although she will reluctantly tolerate grooming, her patience is short lived and so her grooming sessions have to be brief.
Lady came to MWCR from Missouri where she had been surrendered by her owners to a shelter that later, due to crowding, released her to us. She is an adorable, five-year-old, tri-colored female with lots of vitality and enthusiasm. Her former owners indicated that they were surrendering Lady because she was having accidents in the house, and although she has had a couple of accidents at her foster home, we anticipate that with consistency and a regular routine, Lady should have no problem with her housetraining.
Lady is a little overweight at 66 pounds (we like to think of it as pleasingly plump), and since she is being fostered in northern Minnesota, that little extra layer of fat might be just what she needs to handle one of our cold, Minnesota winters. By springtime, Lady is looking forward to being in a wonderful, forever home where walks with her new family and trips to the dog park will just melt those extra pounds away. Lady is always looking ahead with a smile and a happy heart.
Lady gets along well with the other collies at her foster home and she loves to play tug of war with toys. The other dogs here are older than Lady, though the younger ones are still ready and willing to play, and she seems to get along better with them than with the young, alpha girl she encountered during a brief stay at another MWCR home. In that situation, when she felt threatened by the other dog, Lady would just find a favorite toy and carry it around for consolation.
Lady is sometimes frightened by strange or loud noises. At first she would bark at unfamiliar sounds from the TV, and it took her awhile to get used to the sound of her foster mom if she coughed or sneezed. She still barks when she hears the sound of large, noisy trucks outside, and she is a real terror when on squirrel patrol. Whenever Lady is let outside, she feels the need to announce to all squirrels that she is in the yard and they better not be! After the initial announcement, however, she settles right down.
Lady is a happy, energetic girl who loves to play with other dogs and gets along well with older children. She doesn’t jump up on people, but when she is really happy and excited she does do the collie “nibble,” so younger children initially might be frightened until they learn that this is just Lady’s way of giving kisses. Lady is looking for a forever home where she will have someone to play with and will get lots of love and attention. And if you have a secret to share, Lady won’t tell a soul.
Lady II is being fostered in Esko, MN.
