Post-Adoption Update, April 4, 2007

I've been meaning to write to you for a while to let you know that Reggie is doing great! He's happy and healthy and has a ton of energy (I think he's got a case of spring fever). He graduated from obedience school at the top of his class about a month ago. He's pretty good now and usually listens to me. He can be off leash at the park and is perfectly obedient, but if he gets out in the trailer park he seems to forget his name. I guess all of the squirrels, bunnies, and dog smells are too distracting. It has been fun watching him as he gets stronger and healthier the longer he's been off of his cage rest.

Watching him run is amazing, it's more like he's bounding like a deer. He gets along fine with the cats, although I think they think he's a big oaf and don't know what I see in him. Reggie would rather hang out with his best friend Penny (my friends Golden) anyway. Above all Reggie is a real sweetheart. He is constantly at my feet or nudging my hand to get me to pet him.

My roommate has told me that when she comes home and lets him out he paces around the house looking for me, which I think is kind of sweet. He has developed a very effective method of getting the attention that he wants... he wedges his nose between my side and elbow and then flicks his nose so that my arm goes around his neck so I can pet him better. It is very cute, although a little distracting when I am trying to study. He never gives up, people who come visit must think that we don't pay attention to him.

I've attached a couple pictures for you. I hope everything is going well for you. Thanks for everything you did for Reggie, he truly is a great dog!

New to Rescue!

You wouldn’t know it by looking at him, but Reggie is a sick little guy. When he first came to MWCR from a shelter, we knew he was heartworm positive. Since arriving at his foster home, he has received his initial heartworm treatment (approximately two weeks ago) and his foster mom is now trying to keep Reggie calm while he recovers. The good news is that Reggie is Happy, Happy, Happy and wants to Play, Play, Play. That is also the bad news because after a heartworm treatment, it is important for a dog to rest calmly while he recuperates. Foster mom has her work cut out for her!

Reggie is a four to five year old, mahogany/sable boy who is a collie/sheltie mix. He is extremely handsome and about the most loving little guy you will ever meet. He loves affection and petting, and whenever he walks with his foster mom, he does a little “happy jump.” He doesn’t know any commands yet, but while he is recovering, his foster mom will have plenty of time to teach him the basics. He is highly food motivated and wants to please, so he will be a great student. He gets along great with the two other collies at his foster home and just ignores the resident cats.

It will take at least another two months for Reggie to complete his heartworm treatment and make a full recovery. Then he will be ready for his forever home. Be sure to check back for updates on Reggie’s progress.

Heartworm treatment is expensive. If you would like to help with Reggie’s expenses, a donation in any amount would be gratefully accepted.

Reggie is being fostered in the Milwaukee area.
