Rocky, AKA Shamrock

2 ˝ year old mahogany sable male  Not good with Small Children Must have a Fenced Yard

New to Rescue!

Rocky here!

I asked my foster mom if I could write my own biography because I am a “take charge” kind of collie. When I first came here my name was Shamrock, but that seemed like a sissy name to me, so I refused to answer to it and told my foster mom I wanted to be called Rocky. I’m a little small for a collie (only about 40 pounds) so I figured I needed a tough name to make sure the other dogs respected me. I like the other dogs here and enjoy playing with them, but at meal time I have to be fed separately because I am food aggressive – that means that I want all the food to myself, which seems only fair to me. They also have cats here at my foster home, and I find them really interesting. I like to stalk them around the house which really freaks them out, but I wouldn’t hurt them.

I like to go for walks on my leash and I know how to “sit” when I am told to. I am also very good about letting my family know when I want to go outside for a “call of nature.” When cars or motorcycles go by, I get very excited and want to chase them, but foster mom won’t let me and says that I will probably need a forever home with a fenced yard. I beg to differ! Part of the reason that I want to chase cars is so I can catch one and make them take me for a ride. I love to go for rides. I get excited and bounce around a lot so foster mom secures my leash and then I sit still and just look at the scenery.

I really like kids. I like to run and play with them, and sometimes, because I am a “take charge” kind of collie, I like to mouth them a little. I am gentle and don’t hurt them; I just want them to go where I tell them. Because of this and because I bounce around a lot, little kids might be afraid of me. Older kids would understand that I am just being happy and playful.

I have given a lot of thought to the kind of home that I want for my forever home. I like other dogs, so it would be nice if there was one of those, and a cat would be okay though not necessary since they really aren’t much fun. I guess the fence thing wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world as long as my forever family took me for rides in their car so I didn’t have to go out and catch my own. Older kids would be great, because I would love to run and play with them, but if there weren’t any kids, a nice playful adult or two would be just as good. And one more thing: in case you don’t remember, Rocky had his sensitive side too. I want a forever family who will give me lots of love and cuddles, and I will give them lots of collie kisses.

Rocky is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
