Post-Adoption Update, March 29, 2007
Things are going great! Song is settling in to our home real well. I had to take our other 2 to the vet for their heartworm test a couple of weeks ago and so Song went along. She now is down to 66.5 lbs. We have also got her down to 1 pill on Wed. and 1 pill on Sun. for the separation anxiety. We are going to go down to 1 pill once a week next week and then in 2 weeks she will be off of that. She had been doing well without it. I think having 2 other dogs here really helps. They are all getting along great. Sadie did let her know who is boss. They haven't got into any fights, but Sadie just let her know by a couple of growls.
She is sleeping with Sarah at night. We found that she is better in a room than wandering the house. She didn't settle down very much at night when she wandered, and Sarah loves having Song in her room . There are things that do frighten her. One is the screen of the sliding glass door. The other day when it was so nice out we had just the screen door closed and everytime we opened it she backed off. She doesn't like alot of noise either. We are dealing with these little quirks of hers. She is such a sweet dog!
New to Rescue!
In her previous life as a show dog, Song had to constantly watch her figure. So, when she retired from the ring, this lovely, sable and white three year old, decided that she could eat what she wanted, when she wanted it. The result was that Song’s sleek figure began to look decidedly round, and as a smooth coated girl, she didn’t have the thick fur needed to conceal the extra pounds. Thus Song reluctantly began a low calorie, prescription diet and exercise program designed to bring her back to a healthier weight.
Song is a real sweetheart who loves people and attention. At her foster home, she eagerly nudges the other dogs aside to make sure that she gets her fair share of attention, and when her foster mom scratches and pets her, Song moans and groans with appreciation. She is very good with children and other dogs, but according to her previous owner, she doesn’t get along with cats. She loves squeaky toys – the squeakier the better!
Song is a happy, healthy girl, but she does take daily medications for separation anxiety and spay incontinence. Both conditions are fully controlled with the medication, but if her forever family will need to leave her alone for extended periods, she would really like to have a canine companion to keep her company. She is both crate trained and house trained, and is a good, well-behaved girl.
Song is looking for a forever family who will continue with her exercise and diet program and who will be diligent with her medication. In return, she will lavish them with loads of love and affection. The lucky family who adopts her will always have a Song in their heart.
Song is being fostered in Rockford, IL.
