New to Rescue!
Trapper is looking to catch himself a great, new home! He is a handsome, rough-coated, sable collie, born on 3/19/05 and already neutered. Trapper came to MWCR from the Pierce/St. Croix County Humane Society where he had been surrendered by his owners. His paperwork doesn’t indicate why his family gave him up, and much of his early life remains a mystery.
Even more mysterious is the fact that someone chose to surrender this wonderful, happy collie. Trapper is a delightful boy: cheerful, energetic and eager to please. He loves attention from both people and other dogs, and you only have to glance at him to start his tail wagging. Like any young dog, he is extremely playful and enjoys running and playing tug-of-war with the other dogs in his foster home. He is never aggressive with them and doesn’t chase any of the small animals in his foster home. Trapper loves children and is very good with them, although so far he has not been exposed to very young children.
Since coming to his foster home, Trapper has shown himself to be very bright, and quickly learned a number of commands including “come,” “sit,” “give paw” and “lie down.” He was crate trained in just a few days. Trapper is very well mannered on his leash, and in his yard he always stays within sight of his foster mom. If he gets near the perimeter of the yard, a word from her brings him back to her side. In the house, he is also well behaved: he doesn’t counter surf or disturb the trash, and though he loves his chew toys, he never chews on shoes, furniture or other “forbidden” items.
Any negative behaviors that Trapper has can be easily corrected, because he is so eager to please and such a quick study. When he first came to his foster home, he liked to jump up on people, but quickly learned that that was not acceptable. He was not housebroken when he first arrived, but is making wonderful progress. His foster mom is training him to ring a bell by the door when he needs to go outside, and he has been faithfully ringing for more than a week – even Lassie didn’t do that!
There is still a lot of puppy in Trapper, so he is looking for a forever family that will give him lots of exercise and will help him maintain his good behaviors and learn new ones. An active family with children or another playful dog would be ideal. Come and meet Trapper, but watch out, this guy will capture your heart!
Trapper is being fostered near Madison, Wisconsin.
