Update on Bailey II, June 6, 2007

Oh poor Bailey. Until about a month ago, Bailey was as healthy as she was happy. Then she caught a rabbit and proceeded to make rabbit stew. A week later, Bunny karma caught up with Bailey, and she started losing her lovely coat. Within two weeks, there was very little left, and Bailey was in the midst of a prolonged and very bad hair day.

Bailey’s foster mom has taken her to the vet where she has tested negative for mites and parasites. Unfortunately, we still don’t know what is causing her problem. She is currently on antibiotics for her itchy skin, and her vet continues to try to get to the root of her problem. It may be a recently developed allergy or perhaps it is “The Revenge of Roger Rabbit.”

In either case, sweet Bailey has a frown in her usually happy brown eyes. Please keep her in your thoughts.

Update on Bailey II, March 31, 2007

This petite little girl is just a bundle of energy. She’s a quiet pup who almost never barks and weighs less than 40 pounds, but she makes up in strength what she lacks in size. Bailey’s foster mom is convinced that she could run the Iditarod solo. Who needs team mates when it’s so much fun to run and pull, run and pull, run and pull!

Bailey is also convinced that dogs were definitely created to walk upright – not on all fours. First, it helps you look your humans in the eye. Second, it makes it much easier to score a tasty treat off of the counter top. Third, it puts you in the perfect position to give lots and lots of collie kisses.

Bailey is fascinated by the cats at her foster home and would love to chase them. These are dog savvy cats, however, and tend to stand their ground when Bailey approaches. With more timid kitties, Bailey would definitely give chase.

Bailey has never had any training or boundaries and is something of a diamond in the rough. She is looking for an active family that will help her work off all of that energy while teaching her some of the basics of polite, canine behavior. She definitely would benefit from obedience training which would help channel her energy, learn appropriate behaviors and bond with her forever family. Obviously it will take a little extra work to transform Bailey into the sparkling gem she was meant to be, but this sweet girl is well worth the effort.

New to Rescue!

Bailey is a beautiful collie mix who was found as a stray. The vet has proclaimed her to be in excellent health and she is ready for her forever home.

Bailey has lots of energy and a very happy disposition. She gets along well with other dogs and is good with children, although her energy level may be too much for toddlers. She loves to run and play in the yard with her foster canine siblings and she loves people too.

Foster mom is working on teaching her not to jump on people and also to "sit". Bailey is also being crate trained and seems very happy with her crate. She now goes right in! She has had no accidents in her foster home so far and generally wants to spend most of her time outside now that it's warming up in Minnesota.

Bailey needs a home with a fenced yard where she can run off her energy when she needs to. She would also make a great companion for someone who jogs!

Look for updates on Bailey as we get to know her better.

Bailey II is being fostered in Mound's View, MN.
