2-3-year-old sable and white male   Not good with Small Children

Update, December 18, 2007

Good Morning Mom and Dad,

Well as you know yetesterday was quite a long day. It was love at first sight when my new parents saw and met me. I gave them kisses and my paw. They both took turns riding with me in the back seat while my new brother (BJ) sat up front and pouted most of the way home. It was kind of funny. I was really excited once the vehicle stopped and we got to go inside the house. I got to meet the son (Shawn), his girlfriend Mandy, and one of the nephews (Adam). They all just think I am so sweet. They have a bird too but she is a bit smaller than the parrot. She gets really noisy when she wants food or water. I even met the cats. One meowed and came toward me which made me make a funny little noise and jump back a little. I guess he just wanted to rub up against me.

Lots to see and investigate here. I already know where the treat corner is on the shelf in the kitchen. That took me like one time and that's it.

I like our fenced in yard. Mom took me out first to show me around. Then later I went out with BJ and he showed me where the flowers are all planted. There is a special stone slab walking path by the flowers for us but we sorta strayed off that. That is when mom opened the window and told us to get out of her flowers. Geeesh---Don' t know what her problem is--they all look dead to me.

My new sister (Suzie) definitely had to show me who's is 'Queen' here, a few times---GIRLS!!!! She doesn't bite, she just grabs a little of my fur. Mom and dad said--"Don't worry she just thinks she is helping to groom you".

We all got fed in different corners of the kitchen, which was a bit confusing ‘cuz none of us were sure who was holding our food dish. We'll get that all figured out.  Before bedtime Shawn put a big pillow by his bed for me. I hung out upstairs with him for a little while until I sorta pee'd on the floor a little so mom cleaned it up and had me come back down stairs. She wasn't upset--guess I'm not the first to initiate that carpet and I probably won't be the last.

At bedtime I decided to sleep in mom and dad's room--well actually I slept WITH mom and dad. Suzie was on dad's side and I was on mom’s. BJ was in Shawn's bed. We all slept well ‘til 4:30 when Shawn got up, so I had to go see what he was doing. Mom followed shortly after to check on me. We both came back upstairs and got back in bed---that's when this horrific noise began----IT WAS DAD--he was snoring--and goodness he can really sing a song. So mom and I came downstairs. She laid on the couch and I laid next to her on the floor.

Today is going pretty good. Suzie only copped a little bit of an attitude one time. Mom and dad said that is why they call her Tooties with the toode, cuz she can get an ATTITUDE!!

They have a ot of nicknames for my new brother and sister and I think I have a new one now too----they keep calling me-----Half Pint.

I even shocked mom and dad this morning cuz when I went outside with BJ, after we were done and wanted back in, I stood up and scratched on the door. When they came to the door they were very surprised, and got big smiles, to see that it was me. They thought it was BJ cuz he does the same thing when he wants back in. I am pretty confident when I say this--I have definitely gotten under their skin (in a good way) and into their hearts.

Before I forget--THANK YOU for the HUGE basket of goodies. My two x-mas socks are already hung and we all have been playing with some of the toys. I heard mom say something to dad about wrapping up a few for under the tree. I am also very thankful to the MWCR for all that they did for me. But most of all, Mom and Dad, I want to THANK YOU for all that you did. I am here in this loving (and well--a bit nutty) family, and they love me for who I am and it is becuz of what you did to help me become the little man that I am. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I will never forget any of you or what you did for me.

LOVE, HUGS, BIG WET KISSES, and PAWS

Beau

New to Rescue!

One look at his eager, inquisitive face and you just know that Beau is ready to be your best friend. And like all best friends, Beau is loyal and loving, always ready to cheer you up when you need it and to come when you call.

Beau is a two to three year old, sable boy who is somewhat smaller than the average collie. He also has a shorter than normal tail that is probably the result of some past trauma, but only adds to his charm. He is not yet neutered, but that will be done prior to his adoption. Although Beau is housetrained, he did some initial “marking” when he first arrived at his foster home. This behavior has not been repeated, and was probably caused by his “un-neutered” state.

Beau has been a delightful guest at his foster home and can be left alone during the day without any problems or misbehavior. He is normally quiet in the house, though he does consider it his responsibility to notify you if he sees the dreaded chippy on the bird feeder. He gets along well with the other dogs and loves to play with them. He also likes to go for car rides and is very well mannered on a leash. He has a fairly strong herding instinct and will chase vehicles if given the opportunity. Beau also tries to herd the horses at his foster home and if he gets excited during play he can be somewhat “mouthy.”

Beau likes children and is very good with them when he is supervised. If he gets over stimulated during play, however, he will try to herd them and might frighten younger children with his “mouthing” behavior.

Beau tolerates grooming quite well, though when he has had enough, he simply walks away. He has excellent recall and responds particularly quickly to a whistle. He will “sit” and “give paw” on command and is working on “stay” and “down.” He is also learning that he must not jump up on people when he gets excited.

Beau will make a wonderful addition to an active family that does not include very young children. In a rural setting he would not need a fenced yard, though in an urban area, one would be highly desirable, since he does want to chase cars and other vehicles. Beau is a playful boy and would be happiest with another young, active dog to help him work off excess energy. He is an exceptionally sweet, loving fellow who wants nothing more than to please his new, best friend.

Beau is being fostered in Ely, MN.
