Boots in his forever home!
|
News Flash!
Boots is Grrrrrrrrreat with even small children! He let a 3-year-old lead him around on a leash, and heeled very nicely for her. He let another 3-year-old use him as a pillow!
New to Rescue!
Boots is a long, lean, collie boy who currently looks even leaner due to a complete shave of his beautiful, tri-color coat. He came to MWCR as the victim of a broken “home.” His original owners were engaged, but when the engagement was broken off, Boots went to live with the parents of one party, who kept him as an outdoor dog. The outdoor life and a lack of regular grooming left Boots so matted that his coat needed to be shaved. Fortunately, fur grows and soon Boots will be his old, handsome, majestic self. He is a tall collie, weighs about 85 pounds and is 5 years old.
Boots is a very well mannered boy, completely housebroken and his foster mom says he can be left inside for extended periods without any destructive behavior. In spite of having lived outdoor for the last year, Boots has shown no fear of indoor noises and situations. He knows a variety of commands including: sit, down, heel, come and stay. He is a somewhat picky eater, so his foster mom feeds him separately from the resident dogs to keep them from stealing his food.
Boots is heartworm negative, but he has tested positive for Lyme disease. He was showing no symptoms when he was tested and has almost completed his treatment. He appears to be perfectly healthy, but he will need to be retested next year.
Boots is a friendly, easy going boy who is extremely gentle with everyone he meets. He is good with other dogs and basically ignores the family cat. Although his foster family does not include children, his foster mom is quite certain that with his gentle, loving nature Boots would do well with children of any age. He is also good with strangers and when he meets someone new, he will just sit and wait to be petted.
Boots is playful, but he is not a high energy dog. He likes to play with the other dogs at his foster home, and while he is frolicking with them he does tend to bark. Otherwise he is a quiet collie. He has not exhibited any herding tendencies and has not shown any interest in trying to jump the four and one half foot fence at his foster home. His forever home would ideally include a fenced yard, since he is reported to have wandered in the past, but if he were taken for regular walks and supervised when outdoors, a fence might not be mandatory. Boots likes his walks and walks beautifully on a leash. He also likes car rides.
Boots is an extremely loving collie whose gentle soul is reflected in his eyes. He likes nothing better than to be hugged and stroked, and will lick his foster mom’s hand to remind her that he is there and ready to be petted. He would do best in a quiet home where he would get lots of attention and love. He would do fine with other dogs, cats or children, but would be equally happy living as an only dog with a loving couple or single person. He is a sweet, happy, obedient boy who is just waiting for his own family to love.
Boots is being fostered in Brandon, WI.
