Description: In spite of her name, our Buffy is not a vampire slayer. She is, however, the bane of kitties everywhere. Buffy’s foster home includes a ferocious, dog-savvy tabby that strikes fear in the hearts of most of the neighborhood dogs, but Buffy is undaunted by this big cat with the sharp claws. She is genuinely aggressive toward the cat and will definitely need a forever home that is cat free.

Buffy is a small girl, shorter than the average collie and weighing only 45 pounds. Yet in spite of her small stature, she considers herself to be an Alpha female and has had several disagreements with the 80 pound pack leader at her foster home. She does like to run and play with the neighbor’s one year old retriever and has no trouble keeping up with him in spite of her mature age. At nine years old, Buffy’s only sign of age is her teeth, many of which are missing. For this reason she needs to eat a diet of canned or other soft food. Her foster family feeds her separately from the other dogs, because she is highly protective of her food.

Although Buffy doesn’t like cats, she loves children. Her foster home includes two children, five and seven years old, and she does very well with them. She also likes adult women, but is a little stand-offish with men. She is somewhat shy with strangers although she likes them and wants to be friendly. As she gets more comfortable in her surroundings, she is able to warm up and greet strangers when she meets them.

Buffy’s foster family crates her when they leave her alone, and although she doesn’t particularly like the crate, she does tolerate it. She can’t be left alone for long periods of time because she needs to go outside for a “call of nature.”

Buffy likes to go for walks and does very well on a leash. She seems to have a real interest in exploring the world around her and will need a fenced yard (with a tall fence) or constant outdoor supervision to prevent her from wandering off. She also likes to go for car rides and settles in quickly. She will “sit” and “come” (sometimes) on command and is working on “stay.” Buffy is a very quiet girl and almost never barks. Buffy shows no fear of snowmobiles or other machines.  One of her new pleasures is running as one of the children in her foster family rollerblades beside her.

Buffy is looking for a forever home that will provide her with the love that seems to have been missing for much of her life. She is a sweet, affectionate girl who would do very well as an only dog, where she can be the center of attention. NO CATS. She will need a family where someone is home most of the day, so she can be taken outside regularly, and would be a wonderful companion to either a retired couple or a family with gentle children. For a nine year old girl, Buffy has lots of energy and curiosity and is looking for a wonderful retirement home to call her own.
