| Description: |
Tieko is a real head turner. This handsome, five year old boy has a gorgeous full coat and striking blue merle coloring. He loves brushing and the attention it brings him and is tolerant of baths, so it should be relatively easy to maintain his stunning good looks. At 60 pounds he is still a little underweight and needs to gain a few pounds.
Tieko came to MWCR from a shelter where he was surrendered by his owners who said that he was too big and strong for them to handle. Tieko is a big boy, but fortunately he is well mannered, fully housetrained, and can be left loose in the house for extended periods of time with no concerns. He knows several commands including “sit,” “down” and “give paw” and he is working on “come.” He walks well on a leash and likes to go for car rides.
Tieko is a playful, active collie boy, but since coming to his foster home he has had one or two unexplained seizures. It is impossible to learn whether this is a new development, since we are unable to contact his original family. Tieko’s foster mom and his vet are carefully monitoring his condition to determine whether or not he will need to be on medication. In all other respects, he appears to be a happy, healthy collie who loves to run and play.
Tieko loves everyone he meets. He is wonderful with children, including his foster mom’s three year old, granddaughter who refers to Tieko as a “rubber band dog” because he likes to wrap himself around her. He is friendly and sociable with everyone, including strangers, and he is playful and non-dominant with other dogs. There are no cats at his foster home, so it is unknown as to how Tieko would react to them. He is interested in watching the horses.
Tieko does have one enemy: the mechanical engine. In the house, it is most commonly seen in the form of the vacuum cleaner. Tieko HATES the vacuum cleaner and is determined to drive it out of his home. Outdoors the engine presents itself in a variety of forms: cars, trucks, ATV’s, snowmobiles, etc, all of which must be chased away. Needless to say, this passion for chasing vehicles is one that could end very badly for Tieko, so it is important that his forever home have a fenced yard.
Tieko is more than just a pretty face. He is a delightful, fun loving collie who is looking for an active forever family that will include him in the action. He would love to have playful children or another dog to frolic with and he is ready to devote himself to bringing a lifetime of joy and love to his people.
