#2437 – Codie

5-year-old sable and white male   Seeks companion of feline persuasionThis Collie has Special Needs

New to Rescue!

Poor Cody has been bounced around enough. At three years old he found himself at the Indianapolis Humane Society. From there he was adopted by his last family who kept him for just 18 months before surrendering him because he bit their new, black lab puppy. He is quite protective of his space and isn’t friendly with other dogs (perhaps because he feels he has to compete for affection). By the time he arrived at his foster home, he was nervous, untrusting and very fearful of men.

Cody, however, is a remarkably resilient boy. In a very short time, he has learned that being around people can be a joyful experience. He now seeks out affection from both men and women, is curious about exploring his neighborhood and is even feeling confident enough to start checking out countertops for some tasty, forbidden treats.

Cody has food allergies, so he must be kept on a consistent diet of lamb and rice dog food. He likes his special diet and eats well. He also takes a low dose medication to control the itching. Cody is a big boy, though not overweight at 82 pounds.

Now that he is comfortable in his foster home, Cody has shown himself to be a very sweet boy: loyal, loving and quiet. He walks well on a leash and even when he is off leash, he doesn’t wander away. He is good about being groomed and about having his nails trimmed. He likes car rides and travels well. Although he isn’t fond of other dogs, Cody does like companions of the feline persuasion and cats seem to like him too.

Cody is looking for a loving home where he can be the only dog and not feel that he needs to compete for attention and affection. He doesn’t need a fenced yard and he would be fine with older, gentle children. Because much of his history is unknown, it would be best if his forever family did not include young children, however. Cody is a good boy who just wants to be loved.

Codie is being fostered in Duluth, MN.
