#2416 – Emmie

8-week-old female blue merle collie/border collie mix   Not good with Small Children Must have a Fenced Yard

New to Rescue!

Puppies, Puppies, Puppies!!!

There is nothing cuter than a puppy and our two are no exception. Emmie and Bella are sisters whose father was a purebred, sable collie and whose mother was a border collie or sheltie mix. Of the two little girls, Emmie definitely looks the most like a collie, but looks can be deceiving. Her foster mom says she has a lot of border collie attitude, including a strong herding instinct, a fearless manner and the typical border collie stare (you know, the one that makes sheep tremble).

Emmie is a bold little girl who has no trouble keeping up with the two adult collies at her foster home and enjoys playing keep away with them. She definitely has an alpha personality and loves bossing around her sister Bella. Her foster home includes cats, and Emmie has been respectful of the kitties. Emmie would be good with older children, but little ones might find her high energy and strong herding instinct to be a bit intimidating as she grows and gets larger.

At her young age Emmie is not yet housebroken, but when she is left in the indoor/outdoor kennel, she always goes outside to do her business, so she should have no trouble catching on. She has already been spayed. Emmie doesn’t know any commands yet, but she does know her name and has the typical intelligence of her breed. Her high energy and quick wit make her an obvious candidate for obedience training or even agility training. Emmie will need a home with a fenced yard where she can run, play and explore. She has far too much energy for an apartment or town home.

Emmie is looking for a forever home with active people who are familiar with the challenges of raising a strong willed, energetic puppy. She is a very sweet and loving girl, but she has an alpha personality that will require her family to gently set boundaries and teach her that they are the true alphas in the household. Given the proper training and guidance, this cute, cuddly, playful ball of fur will evolve into a strong, confident, loving, lifetime companion.

Emmie is being fostered in Sycamore, IL.
