Description:
Formerly known as Charlie, this little guy was just too adventurous to have such a mundane name. Thus, Charlie became Indy, named after that ultimate adventurer, Indiana Jones. Our little Indy looks particularly bold (and perhaps just a little silly) when he is poking his head through the cat door, trying to extend his exploration into the yard.

Although Indy likes the cat door, he is less certain about the cats. His attitude varies from curiosity to indifference, but he has never been aggressive with them, and would probably be fine in a home that included cats.

There is nothing uncertain about Indy’s attitude toward kids and other dogs, however. He loves them! If there are children anywhere in the house, you can bet that Indy will be there too. One of his favorite things is playing with the seven year old boy in his foster home. He also likes to play with the resident collies, and though Indy only weighs 55 pounds, he has no trouble holding his own with the biggest of the group, an 85 pound, year old male. Indy could afford to gain a few pounds himself and is doing his best to achieve this by trying to polish off the food in the other dogs’ bowls. He is not food aggressive, just hungry.

Indy is still a puppy and as such he likes to chew. He is especially fond of wicker, so it is important that he be given lots appropriate chew toys to keep him from chomping on the wicker furniture. He is crated when his foster mom leaves for work, and is perfectly happy as long as he has a peanut butter filled Kong to play with. Indy is learning what it is like to be an indoor dog, after having lived the first ten months of his young life outside. Like many an adventurer before him, Indy has had to overcome ferocious enemies including window shades and the dreaded vacuum cleaner. Today, however, he has learned that these objects can be tolerated and are not truly evil. He is currently perfecting several commands including “sit,” “down,” and “quiet,” and is learning how to walk politely on a leash. He is a bright, eager-to-please boy and should have no trouble mastering these skills. He would be a great candidate for obedience training, since it would be a wonderful way to bond with his new family.

Indy is looking for a forever home with a fenced yard where he can run and play without wandering off in pursuit of adventure. His ideal home would include either children or another active dog (or best of all – both!) He is such a happy, affectionate, little guy that any family would be enriched by loving him.
