| Description: |
Jake is a handsome, healthy, two year old boy who loves to run and play and is quite the typical collie. He is a young, active dog who enjoys playing with his canine foster siblings and likes to go for two to three mile runs with his foster people several times per week. Jake has plenty of energy and will play fetch for as long as you can throw the ball. Because of his youth, Jake needs plenty of exercise, but he is past the wild, out-of-control puppy stage, and he is a well behaved boy who is completely housetrained and house safe.
Jake is a smart guy who knows his name and a variety of commands including: sit, down, come, leave it, no and wait. He is crate trained, but his foster family has not felt the need to crate him, and he can be left alone for up to nine hours without incident. When his foster family leaves Jake, they confine him to the kitchen to prevent him from “exercising” the kitties. He has a strong herding instinct and considers the resident cats to be small, silly looking sheep who need constant pursuit and discipline. While this is great fun for Jake, it is pure misery for the cats, so Jake needs to find a forever home that doesn’t include felines or other small critters.
Although Jake doesn’t get along with cats, he loves the company of people and other dogs. His foster home does not include small children, so we don’t know how he would be with them. He sometimes jumps up on people and this might be frightening to little ones, but Jake would love to play with active, older children.
Ideally, Jake needs to have a fenced yard where he can run and play with another, fun loving dog. If his forever home does not include a fenced play area, Jake will need to be supervised when outdoors to prevent him from chasing cars, bikes, squirrels, etc. He would also need daily exercise such as running, fetch and trips to the dog park to work off his youthful energy.
Though Jake is an active, playful boy, he also has his soft, cuddly side. At the end of the day he loves to snuggle with his people and give hugs. If he feels he isn’t getting enough petting, he will gently remind you by inserting his long collie nose under your hand or arm or by presenting his fluffy, collie butt for a scratch.
Jake is the perfect choice for someone who wants a young, playful dog who is past the troublesome and destructive “puppy” stage. He is smart, well mannered and ready to bring a lifetime of joy and love to his forever family.
