New to Rescue!

Named for the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, our Lambeau loves the winter and could spend all day frolicking in the snow with his collie foster brothers. Of course like most of us, Lambeau likes playing in the snow better than he likes shoveling the snow. He is fine with snow blowers and snow plows, but his foster mom’s little red shovel is his personal enemy. He seems to feel he has to protect her from it and always barks at it when it appears.

Aside from snow shovels, Lambeau loves everyone. He is a sweet natured, affectionate boy who likes everyone he meets and greets them with a collie kiss and a happily wagging tail. He likes to play with the two resident dogs and would love to chase the resident cats, but they are too clever to run. Instead, they hiss and spit at poor Lambeau who is puzzled by all that feline hostility. He is also good with the family’s teenage son and would make a wonderful playmate for older children. Very young children might be a little intimidated by Lambeau when he jumps up and tries to give them collie kisses, but dog-savvy kids will recognize that he is just showing affection.

Lambeau came to MWCR with his sister Bailey when a family emergency made it necessary for them to reluctantly surrender the two dogs. Both Lambeau and Bailey were raised with lots of love, and prior to coming to MWCR they had lived their entire lives together. Although it took Lambeau a while to adjust to his new circumstances, he was always friendly and affectionate, and now that he is comfortable in his foster home, he is a real love bug.

Lambeau has no food aggression, but he is firmly convinced that his foster family is trying to starve him, so whenever he sees someone holding a piece of food, cat nip or even paper at “collie” level, he just has to take a taste. He can be left alone in the house for reasonable lengths of time as long as any tasty treats are kept out of his reach. He is housebroken and house safe. He likes to go for walks and is very gentle on the leash with no pulling. He has excellent recall and will sit on command. He is currently working on “wait” and “down” and is an eager-to-please student. Lambeau is not fond of grooming but does enjoy a few minutes of it. His forever family may want to have him professionally groomed several times a year to prevent mats and a build-up of his undercoat. The “before” and “after” pictures show the sleek, handsome Lambeau that was buried under his big, bushy undercoat.

Lambeau enjoys the dog park, loves playing with the other dogs and would enjoy playing with the cats if they would only cooperate. His favorite thing, however, is to curl up on the couch with his human for a good cuddle. Because he is a polite boy, he always “paws” at the couch as if asking to be invited up. Of course he is so irresistible that the invitation always comes.

Lambeau is a happy, loving collie who would fit into almost any family. He would love to have another doggie friend and would make a great companion for both adults and children. Only dog-savvy cats need apply, however. This cuddly, loyal collie is ready to give his heart to a lucky new family.

Lambeau is being fostered in St. Francis, WI.
