New to Rescue!
Looking at Lexie’s trusting face it’s hard to imagine that anyone could just dump her by the side of the road, but that’s exactly what happened. A couple saw Lexie being abandoned, and though they couldn’t keep her, they took her in until they could find someone to care for her. That’s when they found MWCR and now Lexie is in a loving foster home.
Lexie is a petite, four year old, sable and white girl who is in great health, though she has the enviable problem of needing to gain a few pounds. Her former owners obviously didn’t care very well for Lexie and she can be food aggressive with dogs (though never with people). This is probably because she had to compete with others dogs for whatever food was available. Her foster mom thinks this behavior may disappear once she establishes her place in the pack and comes to realize that there will always be enough for her to eat.
Lexie is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. She is good with children and loves playing with the neighborhood kids. She is also good with other dogs, but cats are an unknown quantity. Lexie loves being outdoors and playing ball, and when you say “outside” she pricks up her ears and comes running. Though she enjoys the outdoors, she is also well behaved in the house and has been left unsupervised for four to five hours without any problems.
It is obvious that Lexie’s previous owners cared nothing for her and didn’t bother to teach her any commands. However, she is a clever, eager to please girl who would love to have a family that would take the time to teach her the basics and give her the attention that she craves. She likes to go for car rides and settles in well. She also likes to go for walks and sniff out new places though she tends to pull on the leash and is learning better leash manners. Lexie recently went to the groomers and she not only looks great, but was a real hit with the staff who described her as a “joy.”
Lexie is a wonderful, loving girl who is looking for a forever home where she will get the care and attention that she craves. Her forever home could include children or other dogs, but she would also do well as an only dog with a single woman or a couple. She takes a little time to warm up to men, so she would prefer not to live with a single male. A fenced yard is highly desirable for Lexie, since she enjoys spending lots of time outside and would wander off if not supervised. Most importantly, Lexie is looking for a home and family that she can trust to love her forever.
Lexie is being fostered in Austin, MN.
