Update: November 20, 2008
For all those who thought that I wasn’t a Collie, I have just three letters for you: DNA. I may not have all that fur, but when my foster mom had my DNA checked, she found that though I am a mixed breed dog, there is both Collie and Border Collie in my heritage. Now that foster mom has the test results, she says that it explains a lot – my energy and intelligence, my ability to focus on a task, my urge to run and chase and cavort, even my appearance (okay, not the fur). She thinks I would be good at agility, although for some reason she doesn’t let me try that on the kitchen counters.
Just to remind everyone, I’m very smart. I know several commands, I love to chase balls (and I do bring them back and drop them), I get along with other dogs and I run as fast as the wind. Men intimidate me a little when I first meet them so I try to act bigger and tougher than I really am, and I’m a bit scared of kids too, because in the past some kids used to taunt me. But I love the ladies – and I don’t play the least bit hard to get; I give them kisses the minute I meet them.
Description:
I’m Lucy and I’ve been named this month’s “Pawsonality” because I am just about the happiest, most fun-loving girl you will ever meet. I still have plenty of energy, but my foster mom says I am starting to mature (whatever that means). I love to play fetch and I always bring the ball back and “drop it” when you tell me. Now that it’s summer, my foster family takes me and my canine foster sisters to the lake. At first I was a little afraid of that HUGE puddle of water, but after a while I tried wading in it. Wow! Now I love to splash around, bite at the water and pester my foster sister when she tries to catch the little fish by the shore. The lake is a great place because in addition to the water, there are little mouse-like creatures called chipmunks. It is so much fun to chase them, and though I haven’t been able to catch one, I keep trying.
When I first came to my foster home, I was afraid of men, but my foster dad has been real nice to me, and I am learning that there are some pretty nice guys out there. Little kids still make me a bit nervous because they are always running and yelling and stuff. Older kids are okay, but I really like the ladies!
When I am not at the lake or playing fetch or running around with my foster sisters, I like to curl up in front of the television and watch a good show with my family. My sisters don’t pay any attention to the television (go figure!), but I love it. My favorite programs are “Lassie” and “I Love Lucy,” though I am willing to watch anything my family likes.
Well, that’s me. I know I don’t look too much like a collie, but I do have lots of nice collie-like traits. I am loyal and loving and happy. I have watched all of the “Lassie” episodes on television and I am convinced that if you fell down the well, I would be able to fetch help (as previously mentioned, I am very good at fetching). So, how about it? After all, what’s in your heart is more important than how you look, isn’t it?
