New to Rescue!
Maggie is a typical puppy. At nine months old, she is energetic, playful and loves to chew on her rawhide toy. She enjoys running with the other dogs at her foster home in their large, fenced yard. She sometimes lets her puppy energy get the best of her, but she is learning that no matter how happy she is to see someone new, she isn’t supposed to jump up on them.
Yet in one way, Maggie is not typical; because when Maggie’s foster family calls her and tells her that they love her, Maggie can’t hear them. Like many white/merle collies, Maggie is deaf. Her hearing impairment has no effect on her temperament or her enjoyment of life, but it does mean that her family must take certain precautions when she is outside her fenced yard. She must be supervised and on a leash, because she can’t hear oncoming traffic or the sound of her family’s voice when they call her. This is no problem because Maggie is very well behaved on her leash and loves to go for walks. She also enjoys riding in the car, but definitely likes to ride shot gun.
Maggie is fully housebroken and can be left alone for extended periods. She is well behaved in the house, though she is still a puppy and needs to be provided with chew toys to prevent her chewing on inappropriate things. She has lived with children and gets along with other dogs, but because of her youth and energy, her rough and tumble style of play might be little too much for small dogs and young children. Her foster family is teaching her to respond to hand signals.
Maggie is a happy, loving little girl who will be ready for her forever home as soon as she is fully recovered from her spaying. Her forever family should be willing to invest a little extra effort in working with Maggie on her hand signals, but this little sweetheart is more than worth it.
Maggie II is being fostered in Robins, IA.
