#2459 – Rosie

4-1/2-year-old sable and white female

New to Rescue!

Gentle, little Rosie has suffered a very sad loss. Rosie lived almost her whole life with an elderly woman who loved and cared for her. When that woman became ill and entered the hospital, neighbors came in to care for Rosie. They always found her lying by her mom’s bed, waiting. But sadly, Rosie’s mom never came home. For several weeks the kind neighbors continued to take care of Rosie and always found her lying by her mom’s bed, but eventually arrangements were made for her to come to MWCR.

Rosie is as loyal as she is gentle, and she continues to grieve for her mom. She has been at her foster home for several weeks and is slowly beginning to come out of her shell. Her happiest moments are when she goes for walks and gets to meet and greet other dogs and check out the world around her. She is very considerate of her foster mom, and when the sidewalk is icy, she automatically slows her pace and seems to regularly check to make sure foster mom is okay.

Rosie was born with a vision problem and has trouble seeing things that are near to her, though her distance vision is quite good. Because near objects are blurred, she is wary of changes in her environment and doesn’t like stairs, though she will walk up and down them on a leash. She is startled by loud noises such as the vacuum cleaner.

Rosie is an extremely well behaved girl and can be left alone for extended periods without any problems. She is quiet and never barks except as a greeting to other dogs or when she is asking her foster mom to let her back in after a trip outside. Rosie does not need a forever home with a fenced yard, but because of her limited vision, she does need to be supervised when out of doors. She likes to be brushed but was frightened by the bathing process.

Rosie’s foster home does not include any cats, but her gentle nature makes it likely that she would be fine with them. She definitely likes other dogs and seeks them out when she goes for walks. She has also been good with the children she has encountered. She is shy and needs time to get to know them, but once she is acclimated she likes kind, gentle children.

Rosie is looking for a forever home that will understand the loss she has suffered and will patiently help her become the happy girl that she wants to be. She needs a fairly quiet environment without too much commotion and activity. A retired couple or single person would be ideal, and she would also enjoy the company of another friendly, easy going dog. It may take a little time to earn Rosie’s love and trust, but it will be well worth the wait.

Rosie is being fostered in Shoreview, MN.
