Description: If you are looking for a ferocious, guard dog that will frighten off intruders with a menacing snarl, Sandy is definitely not your dog! This sweet girl greets all strangers with a cheerful wag of the tail. She has a gentle, loving nature that welcomes all, including children, adults, other dogs and cats. She is extremely easy going and well behaved, and in spite of her obvious collie ancestry, she rarely barks.

Sandy is an older girl, but still has lots of joy and youthful spirit. She enjoys her daily walks and gets along beautifully with the three other dogs in her foster home. She does have some stiffness in her rear legs that makes it difficult for her to rise from a prone position if she is on a slippery surface, but on carpeting she has no problem. She also handles stairs well, but sometimes needs a little assistance when jumping into her foster mom’s van. Sandy has started taking glucosamine supplements since coming to her foster home and this seems to be helping with her stiff joints. Like many of us, she could probably afford to lose a few pounds and that would also help with her mobility.

Sandy is a well mannered girl who can be trusted alone in the house for extended periods. She has shown no interest in wandering away from her yard and would probably not need a home with a fence. Her recall is usually excellent, although from time to time, when she is exploring something particularly interesting, she fails to hear her foster mom’s call. This may be due to some mild hearing loss or simply because she is engrossed in something else. In either case, a clap of the hands brings an immediate response.

When Sandy first arrived at her foster home, she had a UTI and is still taking Clavamox to clear that up. She is very cooperative about taking her medication, allowing foster mom to put the pill on the back of her tongue and then swallowing.

Sandy tolerates most grooming, but is sensitive about having her tail and hind quarters brushed and doesn’t like to have her feet handled.

Sandy is a remarkably sweet girl who loves everyone. She has been around children as young as five and has always been uniformly gentle. She would love to have a forever home of her very own, where she could relax and enjoy her retirement years in an atmosphere of love. Gentle, respectful children would be fine, as would other well mannered, calm dogs and cats. She will make some lucky family a happy, loving companion.
