#2333 – Sydney, AKA Sissy

4-year-old blue merle female

Update, May 10, 2007

Sydney is doing great.  Each day we learn more and more about her.  Monday we confined her to the porch and kept Ross in the rest of the house.  When we got home from work there were two heads in the porch window looking out.  Ross somehow squirmed under the gate (He's like a mouse) to get in the porch.  We gave up on keeping them apart and the last two days have been fine with no accidents or damage.  They are both so well behaved and both have such good manners.  We have been going to the park near us each evening to give Ross about a mile walk/run.  Now Sydney is part of the routine and has kept up pretty well.  She really seems to look forward to it.  Yesterday was a bit warm and she was pretty tired but very content.  Ross and Sydney don't know how to play together yet (Sydney is quite the ball fetcher but Ross doesn't seem to get the concept) but they are getting closer everyday.  I think walking them together makes them part of the pack.  As I left our bedroom a little while ago Ross and Sydney were laying touching back to back.  That wouldn't have happened the first couple of days.  Thanks again for letting us make Sydney part of our family.

New to Rescue!

Beautiful lady wants to take you for a walk. Literally! Sydney is so excited about going for a walk, she gets a little carried away with herself, but her foster mom is working with her on this. With a little walking etiquette and a gentle leader, Sydney will soon be strutting her stuff in a ladylike manner, and will turn many a head while out and about.

Very well behaved in the house, Sydney knows her basic commands, is crate trained and housebroken. A dainty eater, Sydney occasionally gets a chuckle out of dumping her food bowl on the floor so that her foster mom will hand-feed her, which she enjoys.

Sydney was surrendered to MWCR because she has spay incontinence. The condition is fully controlled with medication. There may be a time in the future when she may start to drip urine again and her new family must be willing to understand this and work along with a Veterinarian to adjust her medication to the proper level.

Friendly, playful, obedient, cuddly, Sydney loves people and attention, and is very good with children. She does seem to have a high herding instinct, which translates into the possibility of her trying to herd (or chase) moving objects, such as motorcycles, bicycles, cats, and the like. It is therefore recommended that her new home show caution around things that would stimulate this trait.

She is very good with dogs AFTER she gets to know them. If they are rambunctious or if they rush up to her she will tell them to back off with doggie language - a growl and a show of her teeth. A lady must have her space, after all - once a potential friend understands that she would prefer to be approached in a more refined manner, Sydney is happy to meet them.

For a home that wants a loving girl to play with and shower affection on, with a bit of care towards her medical needs, Sydney will be happy to give her heart to her new family and friends.

Sydney is being fostered in Rockford, IL.
