New to Rescue!
Once upon a time, in a faraway land called “Kansas” there lived a handsome, regal looking collie named Tulsa. Tulsa was a very good boy, who loved everyone and everything. He loved people, he loved chew bones, he loved playing with other dogs, he loved being groomed, he loved giving gentle little “butterfly” kisses, he loved sleeping on his back with his feet in the air, he even loved cats!
As you can imagine, all this loving made Tulsa a very popular collie. He was so popular that an evil wizard became jealous of Tulsa and decided to put a spell on him. The spell made Tulsa confused and lost, and he spent many days and weeks wandering around Kansas looking for his home. His beautiful coat became dull and dirty and full of mats, and he had trouble seeing where he was going.
When he was just about to give up hope, a stranger found Tulsa and took him to a Humane Society. The people at the Humane Society realized that the best place for Tulsa was a place called Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue, so one day a person from MWCR came and took Tulsa away in a car. It was a very long ride and Tulsa was very confused, but because he was a good boy who loved everything, he even loved the car ride.
Finally the car stopped. Tulsa got out and looked around and said to himself, “I don’t think I am in Kansas anymore.” And he wasn’t; he was in Minnesota at the home of a wonderful fairy godmother called “foster mom.” Tulsa immediately began to feel that the wizard’s evil spell was wearing off. There were lots of wonderful things at this new place and plenty of new creatures and people to love. There were two humans, three dogs, four cats, a hamster and a fish. Tulsa loved them all. He particularly loved the little puppy who treated him like a dad. Tulsa loved being a dad.
Everything was perfect and the evil spell was completely gone – with one exception. Tulsa was having more and more trouble seeing. He bumped into things and was afraid to go up and down stairs because he couldn’t see where he was going. Foster mom took him to a veterinary ophthalmologist who said that Tulsa had progressive retinal atrophy, an incurable condition that would leave him totally blind within about six months. Everyone was sad for Tulsa except Tulsa. He just continued loving everything and everyone. His foster family helped him learn to navigate the stairs and his little puppy friend became his guide dog.
Then one day, Tulsa’s foster mom looked at him and realized, “He is such a gem; we can’t let him go.” Thus Tulsa became Topaz and found his forever home. And the people, the dogs, the cats, the hamster, the fish and Topaz all lived happily ever after, because “There’s no place like home, There’s no place like home, There’s no place like home . . .”
Tulsa is being fostered in Savage, MN.
