Description:
When you work in rescue, you come across lots of different reasons for why people are forced to give up their dogs, but this was a new one on us: Bailey didn’t get along with Llamas! So now Bailey is looking for a loving, Llama-free home. He gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home and with the eleven year old son, so kids and dogs should be no problem. He is rumored to also have issues with cats (perhaps they look like short, stocky Llamas to him), though we haven’t witnessed that first hand.
As you can see from the photos, Bailey came to us with a coat that had been clipped short, presumably because of mats. His fur was quite coarse, but with vitamins and quality dog food, it is softening and growing in nicely. Once his prolonged “bad hair day” is over, Bailey will obviously be a very handsome collie boy.
Bailey has what his foster mom describes as a “sunny” face and a “sunny” disposition to match. He is very affectionate and likes to stay close to his people, but is not clingy. He loves attention and will bark if he feels he isn’t getting his fair share of petting. Bailey doesn’t enjoy grooming, so that needs to be done in short sessions to keep him from getting annoyed and vocalizing his displeasure. He is fully housebroken and does not jump up on the furniture.
When Bailey first came to his foster home, it took him awhile to make the transition. He initially paced and appeared nervous but has now settled in nicely. When he moves to his forever home, his new family will need to be a little patient with him until he learns to relax and feel secure.
Aside from a family with Llamas (and those little, cat-shaped Llamas), Bailey would fit in beautifully in almost any home. He can be a little timid about stairs, so he would prefer a home that didn’t include lots of long flights of steps. A fenced yard would be ideal, but not mandatory if his forever family was diligent about supervising his outdoor activity. It will take a little imagination to fully appreciate what a lovely collie Bailey will be once his coat grows out, but before the snow flies (unless of course we get a July blizzard) he will be every bit as handsome as he is sweet and loving.
