Description:
Although he still has that cute, cuddly, “puppy look,” Ernie is well on his way to becoming a charming, well behaved dog. At only five months old, Ernie is mostly house trained, crate trained and knows both verbal and hand signals for “sit,” “off,” “no” and “go potty.” He also has good recall and likes to retrieve a ball. Not a bad set of achievements for a little guy who has only been around a few months!
But don’t let his good manners fool you. This handsome boy still has lots of puppy fun and energy in him. He greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and an invitation to play, loves his toys (especially his Frisbee), is very good with other dogs and is a gold medal winner in the sport of “chase the cat.” Since cats rarely enjoy this event, it would probably be best if Ernie’s forever home did not include felines. Ernie loves children but when he is excited he will “mouth” and jump up and could frighten young kids. Older children would be great.
Ernie is a happy, affectionate guy who loves to be with his people. He currently sleeps in his crate but once he is older he would prefer to be near his family. He is a quiet collie and only barks when he is first crated. He soon settles down, however, and devotes his attention to chewing on a toy. His foster mom crates him when she leaves the house, since he is still at the age when it is hard for him to distinguish between a chew toy and a shoe. He loves his food and treats and can be food aggressive with other dogs. For this reason he needs to be fed separately.
Ernie will be neutered on September 5th (shhhhh, he thinks he is going in for a spa day) and after that he will be ready to go to his forever home. It would be ideal for his home to have a fenced yard since his puppy enthusiasm could easily take him into harm’s way. He would love to have older children or another active dog or human to play with. If your family is looking for a playful, fun loving puppy who, with just a little more training, will grow into a devoted, well behaved, lifetime companion, Ernie is waiting for you.
