Description: Maggie is a shy, sensitive, little girl. She came to MWCR from a local shelter where she had been dropped off by her owner who described her as “too high strung.” Well, the shelter was no place for a delicate girl like Maggie, and in the week that she lived there she refused to either eat or drink. You can imagine what a relief it was for her to arrive at her foster home.

Maggie is an exceptionally sweet, loving girl who wants nothing more that to please her people. She follows her foster mom around constantly and will “play bow” to her to entice her to play. She has a very soft disposition around humans and wants to give and receive affection from the members of her foster family. When she encounters a stranger, however, Maggie is extremely shy and usually hides behind the other canine members of the household. She will watch her foster mom for cues that the new person is safe to trust. She is good with other dogs though she will stand guard over her food dish. She is also fine with the resident cats. Maggie loves children, but due to her nervousness and fears, it is recommended that her forever home should not include noisy, boisterous children. Maggie has never shown any aggression to children or adults, but a very active environment would overwhelm her.

Maggie will need a fenced yard, primarily to keep her from bolting if she encounters a loud or unfamiliar experience. She would not do well on a tie out, and any type of confinement adds to her fears so she should not be crated. She does not like car rides and will not willing jump into a car. Also, Maggie will not climb stairs.

Maggie has many fears and phobias, but she also has more than her share of gentle, loving sweetness. She loves to jump up next to her foster mom, and when foster mom calls Maggie her “pretty girl,” Maggie will wag her tail and spin around as if to say “Look at me!” She is so filled with love and so anxious to please.

Maggie is looking for a very special home. Her forever family could include cats, other dogs and children, but it must be a home with a minimum amount of noisy activity and chaos. She would do beautifully in a quiet, stable environment with people who are prepared to help her learn that the world doesn’t have to be a scary place. It can be a sanctuary of love.
