Matlock

Like his TV namesake, MWCR's Matlock is smart and a well-mannered gentleman. Matlock came to MWCR after being turned in to an animal control group in Michigan. Age 8, he reportedly was kept outdoors and was not trained by his former owners. However, Matlock was housebroken very quickly and is adapting well to living indoors. Matlock could stand to put on a little weight, as he weighs in at a slender 45 pounds. He has no known health issues, but he sometimes shows signs of soreness or stiffness in his hips. He also has damage to his muzzle that prevents it from closing fully, but it does not interfere with his ability to eat or drink and it gives him a unique "smile."

Friendly, obedient, easy going and playful, Matlock is good with children of all ages and with other animals. He is typically quiet, well behaved and likes to follow and hang out with his humans. Matlock loves both to give and receive affection, enjoying hugs and even grooming. In return, he likes to nuzzle arms and legs. Matlock also works hard to communicate with his foster family, grunting and sighing on occasion to express his opinion. He shows no notable fears or negative behaviors, although he may whine and yelp at night if he is not around other dogs or people. Matlock also hesitates when confronted with stairs, but he does use them. He willingly jumps in and out of the car and enjoys car rides.

While a fenced yard is not mandatory for Matlock, it is desired so that he can enjoy some of the freedom he had as an outdoor dog. He is a low maintenance, happy, loving collie mix that will do well in any family situation. However, a forever home with elementary school aged children for him to love would be ideal.
