New Referral!

This stunning, lovable boy is Max, a sweet and affectionate 3-4 yr. old bi-black Sheltie (mix? possibly part Border Collie?) who loves to be near his person. His foster mom is taking him to obedience and agility, and he responds to sit, down, come, and fetch. He is very eager to please and super-smart. Max heels nicely on-leash next to you, but will pull & bark to alert you to the neighborhood squirrels. Because he is a young active dog, he needs mental and physical activity. These are also the characteristics that give him potential as a great agility dog! Max weighs ~40-45 lbs. and stands ~21 inches at the shoulder-he's a big Sheltie boy!

After plenty of playtime, Max settles down for a nice evening on the couch in front of the fire and TV, and enjoys kisses and affection. When his foster mom lies down on the floor, he plops himself right on top of her wanting those hugs and kisses. He is not overly vocal (for a Sheltie), but will bark to get your attention if you are in another room or when he feels left out of the fun.  At night, he quiets down nicely in his crate for a good night's sleep, though he would prefer to snuggle in bed with you. Max never begs for food or tries to steal any. In fact, when his foster mom is eating, he will lay down away from the table without being told. He takes treats very gently.

Inside and out he gets along well with his canine siblings of all ages and is respectful of them when told it is not yet time for him to play. Max needs a home with another playful dog and an active owner who will continue to take him to obedience training (and/or agility) and who can earn his trust as his leader. Inside the house he does like to chase the resident cats when they run. If they are perched high he won’t give them much attention, but when they move, so does Max! A home without cats is recommended. There are no children in his foster home, though he has done well with older children and teens. A fenced yard (i.e. wood or chainlink fence, no e-fence) is a must since he is an active boy and because he will chase squirrels & chipmunks.

The adoption fee for Max is $300.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home). For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue website or call 612-616-7477.
