Quincy

3-year-old male border collie mixShould not be around Cats

New Referral!

Quincy is a lovable border collie mix with lots of energy.  He weighs 50 pounds and is about 3 years old.  His current owner got him from a Petco store almost two years ago.  He had been a stray from Kentucky and was in a shelter in Buffalo, MN.  He is well behaved in the house while his owner is at work for up to 10 hours.  He has always been healthy except for kennel cough and worms when he was first brought home. Medical records are available and he is current on his shots.  He can easily jump a 4 foot fence and is currently chained when outside.    He loves to ride in the car, but needs to learn to sit calmly during the ride, or be crated/strapped in.  Quincy loves to chase rabbits and squirrels, and should therefore not have cats (or squirrels or rabbits!) as housemates.  He has learned how to socialize very nicely with dogs at the dog park but is leash aggressive and is not allowed to meet other dogs while on leash.  On his daily walks, he wears a gentle leader.  Quincy loves to jump on and over things, into open car windows, go through tunnels and squeeze into narrow spaces (AGILITY POTENTIAL!!!!!).  He loves to visit his owners' parents’ farm and is well behaved there except for chasing cats.  He will stay on the property.  He has been around horses a few times without incident.  Quincy loves teenage boys.  He wants to jump up to greet people, and his owner has worked diligently with him in order to stop inappropriate jumping.  He will still jump on new people or teenage boys who don't discourage him.

Reluctantly, his owner needs to find a new home for Quincy because she has 3 teenagers and lives in a fairly small space with many people coming and going.  Quincy loves teenage boys but becomes stressed with too many people in a small place. Quincy is territorial about his food and bones, and will growl if a person attempts to remove them.  He has not been around young children much and appears to have a strong herding instinct/prey drive, so in addition to his food aggressive tendencies, for this reason should be strongly supervised if around children.   He gets very upset at the vet so is normally muzzled to avoid difficulties.  Quincy would greatly benefit from routine energetic exercise, and an owner who could devote the time to work with his natural inclination to herd and control his environment.

Quincy would be happy living where he has lots of space to run and would tremendously enjoy trying agility training.  Amazingly, he didn't even mind wearing his convict uniform for Halloween (see his handsome pictures).

Quincy will thrive in a mentally and physically stimulating environment.  Although he is greatly loved in his present home, his owner realizes that he does not have enough mental stimulation, nor enough physical exercise, to allow Quincy to "be all that he can be".  And she feels that Quincy deserves that and more, because he is a wonderful fellow who has much more potential than to be just another pretty face lying around living a life of leisure.  This smart and athletic guy wants to play and perform!

Quincy currently lives in St. Paul, MN.  More information can be requested from:  brendanatala@comcast.net
